Description

@AaronFrielAaronFrielopened on May 5, 2019
  • I have tried with the latest version of my channel (Stable or Edge)
  • I have uploaded Diagnostics
  • Diagnostics ID: n/a

I cannot upload diagnostics on machine due for compliance reasons.

Expected behavior

After enabling Kubernetes and giving the Hyper-V VM DockerDesktopVM sufficient CPU and memory (4 cores, 6GiB), CPU usage should be close to idle when no non-system containers are running.

Actual behavior

The DockerDesktopVM and its associated vmmem process consumes 5-25% of CPU usage, resulting in a machine that never reaches an idle state.

Information

  • Windows Version: Windows 10 1903
  • Docker for Windows Version: 2.0.4.0 Edge
  • Not Windows 10 Docker processes consuming high CPU with no running containers #1772

The DNS mode was changed to Fixed per the instructions in this comment: #1772 (comment)

The processes consuming the most CPU are:

  1. kube-apiserver
  2. kube-controller-manager
  3. /usr/local/bin/dockerd

With kube-apiserver contributing the most.

PID USER TIME COMMAND 30089 root 5:25 kube-apiserver --authorization-mode=Node,RBAC ... 30135 root 2:15 kube-controller-manager --address=127.0.0.1 ... 1768 root 1:49 /usr/local/bin/dockerd -H unix:///var/run/docker.sock ...

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Enable Kubernetes
  2. ???
  3. Watch battery drain :(
