redpup R Has anyone made or purchased a radiator/intercooler cover for the winter besides foam pipe insulation? I've been researching this all day, and there looks to be a consensus that covering the upper grille isn't advised due to the radiator fans needing a large volume of air during a DPF regen. However, I'd like to do the bottom grille to cover more of the intercooler and hopefully prevent the dreaded icing of the innards. I'd think that buying a cheap rubber mat and cutting it to fit the profile, then zip tying it to the grille will work great, and then just leave the top grille open. I don't like the pipe insulation look so I'm hoping to stay away from that. Besides, I bought my wagen to use it, whether it be on cycling or ski trips. I blame this on the EPA, setting these high emissions standards which led to the EGR system. #5 · Nov 21, 2013 Thanks for the link. Interesting reading. More of a reason for me to get a Malone tune soon haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 0 Reply #4 · Nov 20, 2013 Get one of these. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=400352 #6 · Nov 21, 2013 Thanks for the link, but $100? That's awfully high for my tastes, I just need the bottom part too. I'll make a homemade one within the next week or so and post it on here if it turns out well... #7 · Nov 21, 2013 Drive your car hard every once in a while and you won't have this issue. Blow it out of the system before it has a chance to accumulate to the point that the water could cause a hydrolock. I have Malone stg 2 with both EGR systems deleted along with the DPF, so its a non issue for me now. The first 105k of this cars life it was stock and I never had an issue with hard starts, icing, or water accumulation in the IC. I attribute this to the fact that I frequently hit WOT and continuously blow any little bit of condensation out the tailpipe. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk Insert Quotes Post Reply
