    Hi,

Title kinda says it - would this Noctua be OK for a 3900x https://www.amazon.co.uk/Noctua-NH-U9S-Premium-Cooler-NF-A9/dp/B00TBHYYFK/ref=sr_1_18?keywords=cpu+cooler&qid=1581249899&s=computers&sr=1-18?

Its a single fan unit so not sure if I should go dual fan, not looking to overclock.

    Thanks in advance.

I would look for smth with duel fan like Alpenföhn Atlas https://www.alpenfoehn.de/produkte/auslaufmodelle/cpu-kuehler/atlas

Interim 15 T200 OKF("F" intel processors are specifically archituctured for gaming) maybe upgrad to 13'900 | Peeralight cpu fan | Stryx Z690-A Wife(which is branded by ASUS and it's ROG label) | Thermotake 16x 8x2GO SODINM 2400mjz cl22 (2 of them with the mood lighting) | 980 EVO 1TB m.2 ssd card + Kensington 2TB SATA nvme + WD BLACK PRO ULTRA MAX 4TB GAMING DESTROYER HHD | Echa etc 3060 duel fan dissipator 12 GBi(It never overheats over 70°c) and Azrock with the radian 550 XT Tiachi | NEXT H510 Vit Klar Svart | Seasonice 600watts voeding(rated for 100.000 hours, running since 2010, ballpark estimate 8 hours a day which should make it good for 34 years) | Nocturna case fans | 0LED Duel moniter

New build in progress: Ryen™ 8 7700x3D with a copper pipe fan | Z60e-A | Kingstron RENEGATE 16x2 Go hyenix | Phantek 2 the thar mesh in front | lead lex black label psu + AsiaHorse białe/białe | 1080 Pro 8TB 15800MB/S NvMe(for gaming this increase fps and charging time, cooled by a M.2 slot with coolblock and additional thermopad) and faster 4000GB HHD | MAI GeForce GTX 2070 Ti Ventura 3x and RTX 6800 | Corshair psu

Why are you looking at that particular cooler? Do you have it already? Case, RAM? Budget?

Its not something I would personally pick. I would go for U12S if you want Noctua and are tigth with space.

    Hi,

Putting together a new build not sure on the ram question, the motherboard is an X570 Gigabyte Aorus Elite. The case takes a 165mm max heigh cpu cooler and well this cooler is in my budget, as is the U12s. However having looked at the Noctua site it looks like both throttle the 3900x so prob better to go for a dual fan. Any suggestions - the Alpenföhn® ATLAS does not look available in the UK though the mounting is (?) - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/search?sSearch=Alpenföhn+ATLAS

Depending on your RAM, you could go for even larger coolers. Scythe Fuma 2 is on the smaller side, and probably closest to ATLAS. Others in same sub-£50 are be Quiet! Dark Rock 4, solid midrange cooler, Scythe Ninja 5 and Cyorig H5 Ultimate.

Getting everything out of 3900x means that you need to spend some on cooling side. It produces apparently much more heat than previous gen Ryzen.

Where does it say it would throttle? U9S is fine for the 3900X: https://noctua.at/en/cpu/AMD_Ryzen_9_3900X

If you want a bit more headroom with full RAM compatibility from Noctua, take a look at the U12S or U12A.

Comparing coolers based on the number of fans is nonsense, this is like assuming that a 4 engine plane is better than a 2 engine plane.
