Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Mar 20, 2022 (Edited) An X7 is not a sports car, and it weighs about 575 more than a comparable (same engine, xDrive) X5. I had an X7 40i loaner for a week and it was fine, but I was driving smoothly and efficiently. The new 40i's are now mild-hybrids, meaning the gasoline engine gets a boost from the electric motor. A good experiment is to turn on the Sport display iDrive showing the horsepower and torque displays in your X5. If you see your maximum torque up close to 300 pound-feet (~400 N-m) often, then you'd probably "need" your X7 spec'ed as an M50i or Alpina . Your maximum torque is 331 pound-feet ((450 N-m) (10% more), but the X7 weights about 10% more than the X5. Watching the torque display on my 535i has convinced me that I'd be fine with a 530i next time around. As your MPG gets lower, a few MPG's change makes more of a difference in fuel use and cost. But, the cost difference between an X7 40i and a M50i is huge, making the increased fuel cost almost trivial. #3 · Mar 20, 2022 I don’t know what ‘drags’ means. I have been driving diesel cars, three now, for twenty years. The first two were 2700 lbm 90 Hp 1900 cc VW TDI with 155 lbf-ft and they were fine, gave great mileage and did not ‘drag’ in my experienced opinion. They taught me that “One buys horsepower but drives torque.” #4 · Mar 20, 2022 (Edited) The current generation of BMW turbocharged gasoline engines produce their maximum torque starting at about 1200 RPM. Torque is what makes a car accelerate. Power is what makes a car accelerate while traveling at high speed. #5 · Mar 20, 2022 We have a 2019 4.0. No complaints and this is coming from a 5.0 x5. I would get the 4 unless you just like drag racing at red lights lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk #6 · Apr 6, 2022 5.2 sec 0-60 in a x40 is plenty fast for such a big monster. Suppose you can apply a tune ti make it a little faster if you fancy. That v8 is a gas hog and has very bad history with reliability in previous incarnations Insert Quotes Post Reply
