Joined 2006 Are X7R ceramic capacitors suitable as power supply bypass capacitors in audio ckts like op amp filters, or do I need to spend the much larger amount on NP0 types? Rradtech

Joined 2006 Here's a couple of links, read up and see if you think the X7Rs will do in your application. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NP0 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X7RtheAnonymous1

Joined 2004 NP0/C0G type is the better capacitor. They are more expensive and usually larger for the same value than X7R type. TDK CAP CER 0.10UF 50V X7R 10% 0805 = $0.112 TDK CAP CER 0.10UF 50V C0G 5% 1210 = $3.30BWRX

Joined 2005 X7R ceramics are fine for bypassing. NP0 would be preferred in active filter circuitry. X7R ceramics have a dielectric with a higher relative dielectric constant which equates to more capacitance per unit volume. RRetroAudio

Joined 2004 X7Rs have their place in digital circuits where NPOs can't fit. Status Not open for further replies. Share: Facebook X (Twitter) LinkedIn Reddit Pinterest Tumblr WhatsApp Email Link- Home
