After the release of the Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro a while ago, Xiaomi has now launched the next device in this generation of the Redmi series—the Redmi 9—in China. The Redmi 9 is positioned below the Redmi Note 9, with an affordable price tag that reflects that.
The Redmi 9 sports a 6.53-inch display. It's a FHD+ panel, too, and that's great. Previous phones in the series had to make do with a HD+ display. At the back of the Redmi 9 is a quad camera setup: a 13 MP main snapper, an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle shooter, a 5 MP macro cameras, and a 2 MP depth sensor. It's ultimately just two usable cameras, but that's still one more than on the Redmi 8. At the front is an 8 MP camera housed within a waterdrop notch.
Under the hood is a MediaTek Helio G80. That should offer excellent performance, considering MediaTek's recent releases—better than the Snapdragon 439 on the Redmi 8 at least. Other notable features include dual-band WiFi, a 5020 mAh battery, Android 10-based MIUI 11, and 18 W fast-charge support, although the stock brick maxes out at just 10 W.

The Redmi 9 is now available on pre-order till June 29. Shipping starts on June 30.
