What to Expect When You Visit Medieval Times

All hail the queen! If you haven’t heard, Medieval Times released a new show plot that for the first time in the company’s history, features a queen as the main character.

And if that isn’t enough to get you excited, along with this new story line comes thrilling costumes, skillful routines, beautiful visual effects, and all of the pageantry you have come to know and love.

We had the chance to visit Medieval Times, Chicago and experience the excitement. Here I am going to tell you a bit about this show, and 6 things to know before going to Medieval Times. Are you ready to head to the castle with me?

6 Things to Know Before Going to Medieval Times

Our closest Medieval Times is the Illinois location, so heading out for a day trip is always exciting. If you don’t live near the Chicago castle, don’t worry, You can find the closest Medieval Times castle when you visit their official website here.

We are not newbies when it comes to visiting the castle (you can see our Medieval Times Review here), as the graceful horses, gorgeous costumes, and of course the courageous knights have always kept us entertained and wanting to come back again and again.

Oh, and did I mention the food? We have yet to have a bad meal at the castle, and have enjoyed nothing but impeccable service fit for a Lord or Lady.

The cast and crew at the castle works so hard at always staying in character, providing guests with a unique experience you just can’t get anywhere else.

Reasons to Visit Medieval Times

If you are thinking about attending a show near you soon, here are 6 things to know before going to Medieval Times!

1. Get there about 45 minutes early. There is so much to see when you arrive at the castle! By getting there early, you can check out the weapons display, see cast in costume, enjoy the royal announcements, grab an adult beverage from the bar (or a slushie for the kids) as well as take lots of fun pics!

You will find some fun staged areas for you to take your own photos, and it is always a hoot to visit the gift shop areas for all things castle related.

You can find all sorts of Medieval Times swag at these shops as well as gifts for the Lords and Ladies in your life.

2. Feel free to dress up or come casual! You will notice that the crowd at Medieval Times is like no other. Feel free to dress in costume (many do!) or just come as you are.

Dress in general is casual, so just come comfortable. Kids may enjoy wearing dress up items so they can look like knights and princesses, but even if you don’t have the energy for all of that don’t worry. Everyone will receive a paper crown upon their arrival to the castle.

3. There is no such thing as a bad seat in the castle. The way the castle is set up ensures everyone has a great view of the show. No matter where you sit, you will be able to see all of the action. We have sat in several different sections and each time we felt close to the action and were able to take great pictures.

The section you are in will determine which knight you are cheering for. You will get a crown to match your knight’s colors and your knight will visit your section often! You are encouraged to cheer on your knight as he competes which is a ton of fun.

4. Plan on a big meal. I will be honest, I tend to eat a small breakfast when I know I am headed to the castle! The meal that is included with the show is hands down amazing. For your meal you will get:

– baby dragon (rotisserie chicken) – dragon blood (tomato soup) – a seasoned potato – corn on the cob – garlic bread – soft drinks of your choice – house dessert – coffee

Portions are huge! If you can’t finish your meal don’t worry. Your server will be happy to bring you boxes to take the rest home. Another important thing to note is the castle is willing to accommodate certain dietary needs. If you require a vegetarian meal or have a food sensitivity, be sure to let the amazing staff know.

Just a reminder: meals are served without utensils to make them more authentic. The way the food is served makes it really easy to eat with your hands. If you are worried about this being an issue, just slip some plastic cutlery in your bag prior to leaving.

5. Bring a little extra cash for gratuities and show extras. During the show you will be offered the chance to purchase a group photo (around $15) as well as light up novelty items. You can also order additional adult drinks or slushies for the kids.

You can use a credit card to pay for the purchases but bringing cash helps move the transaction along a bit quicker.

Gratuity for your server is not included in the price of your ticket. Let me tell you, THESE FOLKS WORK HARD! They will bring you everything you need and create an amazing experience for your family. And, they will do all of this while staying in character!

Standard gratuity seems to be $3-$4 per person in your party. Bring a little extra cash so you can take care of your server when the show concludes.

6. Check out the Medieval Times website for current offers and amazing deals. I follow Medieval Times on social media so I can be sure to see upcoming offers and events. Head to their website and get on their mailing list as well so deals and offers get sent right to your inbox!

I have to tell you that their social media accounts are really entertaining and fun to follow, so be sure to get in on the action.
