K.K. Cruisin to your island soon.

Felicia Miranda AvatarBy Felicia MirandaUpdated: Apr 21, 2020 9:24 pmPosted: Apr 9, 2020 4:50 pmOne important feature you can unlock in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is island evaluations. These are super important for achieving some of the more long-term goals in the game, like getting K.K. Slider to perform on your island. Unlocking island evaluations is just the beginning of that process, however, and to get the attention of the famed musician, your island will need to at least have a three-star rating.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Visiting Characters

Blather’s sister Celeste is an occasional visiting character in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. She’s an owl with a deep red color, pink bow, and peach and white diamond pattern across her belly who can be found wandering around the town at night. Speak to her and she’ll teach you how to wish upon a star, a skill needed to collect star fragments which are items needed to craft wands and some of the celestial DIYs. She'll also share a new DIY recipe each new time you meet her, which can teach you how to make costume-changing wands, as well as outer space and astrological-themed items. Frequency: Random; Time Available: 7pm - 5am; Location: Wandering around town; Rewards: DIY RecipesView 14 ImagesFishing influencer C.J. is a new character to Animal Crossing and seems to have taken over the role of hosting fishing tournaments from Chip. The fish-loving beaver wears a bright yellow vest and camo shorts, and can be found occasionally wandering around town (usually by the water) looking for an opportunity to create new content for his fans by buying fish. He also hosts fishing tournaments in the town square by Resident Services. He pays 1.5x the going rate for fish and will even reward you with a fish statue if you turn in three of the same kind. Frequency: Random, Seasonal Fishing Tourneys; Time Available: All day; Location: Wandering around town by the water or in the plaza by Resident Services; Rewards: Bells, Fish statues, or Fishing Tourney event rewardsThis adorable, little orange boar with a serious case of a runny nose is another new character in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Wearing a white bonnet, blue dress with a blue apron, and a hat with turnips on top, Daisy Mae visits towns weekly selling turnips once players have unlocked Timmy and Tommy’s store, Nook’s Cranny. Check out our ACNH turnip guide for details on how to flip turnips and stack bells! Frequency: Every Sunday; Time Available: 5am - 12pm; Location: Wandering around townFlick is a bright red chameleon with a punk style who has a fascination for bugs. Similar to C.J., Flick hosts a bug-related event called Bug-Off and can be found wandering about town looking to buy bugs at 1.5x their normal price. He will also reward you with a statue if you give him three bugs of the same type. Frequency: Random, Annual Bug-Off Event in the Summer Time Available: All day; Location: Wandering around town or in the plaza by Resident Services; Rewards: Bells, Bug Statues, Buff-Off event rewardsIf you have ever discovered a seagull in a blue and white sailor’s outfit washed up on the shore of your beach, then congrats! You’ve encountered Gulliver. If you try talking to him, he won’t awake immediately. It takes a few tries. But once you shake him from his stupor, he’ll ask you to recover some communicator parts so he can get in touch with his shipmates and ask them to come and get him. If you help Gulliver, he’ll reward you with rare antiques and collectible items. Frequency: Random; Time Available: All day; Location: Beach; Rewards: Souvenir clothing and itemsIt's a fairly layered process that requires some dedication -- daily maintenance, building, crafting, and going all-in on being the island's resident representative. We've broken down how to unlock island evaluations, as well as listed the steps needed to improve your island's rank in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. More Animal Crossing: New Horizons Guides:

How do you get a three-star island rating in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

It's likely that you have already started taking many of the steps required to improve your rating, like starting your own garden, building fences, and creating communal spaces for your villagers. Those are great first steps to take! Use the steps below to further improve your island's star rating so you can enjoy the sound of K.K.'s smooth melodies live:
  1. Unlock Island Evaluations
  2. Move in 7 or more villagers
  3. Rid your island of all weeds
  4. Build fences around town
  5. Plant plenty of flowers and water them
  6. Connect all the parts of your island by adding bridges and inclines
  7. Build and place 25 different pieces of exterior furniture and DIY items (use your miles at the Nook Stop!)

How to Unlock Island Evaluations

Unlocking island evaluations requires you to upgrade resident services in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which is its own unique mission. You have to pay off your Deserted Island Getaway Package which can be done by completing various tasks around the island on your first few days in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Check out our beginner’s guide which walks you through all of that.Next, you’ll need to build Nook’s Cranny. Speak with Tom Nook after paying off your deserted island package and ask about upgrading your tent into a house. After your home is built (takes about a day), head back to resident services and talk to Timmy about opening a store. He’ll ask for help collecting resources. After bringing him all of the resources, Timmy will give you the building plot for Nook’s Cranny. Place it down somewhere on the island and wait for construction to complete (takes another day).Next on the list is building a bridge and three houses for incoming villagers. Speak to Tom Nook again, once Nook’s Cranny is finished. He’ll ask for help building houses for villagers but before that, he’ll ask you to build a bridge. Once that bridge is complete, he’ll give you the building plots for the villagers.Placing down plots for villagers is simple enough, but building the interior and exterior furniture for each home is time-consuming. Luckily, this will be the only time you have to do this much building for incoming villagers.Once all the villagers are moved in, resident services will undergo construction. When it opens again, Tom Nook will ask you to build a campground so new villagers can come to visit the island and move in. Building the campground will unlock island evaluations that you can begin asking Isabelle about. She will also offer advice on how to make the town better and raise the island's rating.
