Background

The Bad Omen effect is a status effect that starts when a player drinks an Ominous Bottle which can be obtained after killing the illager patrol leader. An illager patrol leader is the illager that is wearing a banner on its head.

Starting in Minecraft 1.21, Bad Omen is a status effect that will turn into either:

1. Raid Omen When a player enters a village causing a Raid (similar to how Bad Omen used to work before Minecraft 1.21)
2. Trial Omen When a player enters a Trial Chambers and is near the Breeze Spawner

There are levels of Bad Omen such as Bad Omen II, Bad Omen III, Bad Omen IV and so on. The higher the level of Bad Omen, the more challenging the Raid or Trial Chamber will be.

Icon and Particle Effects

When you have the Bad Omen effect, the following icon will appear in the top right corner of your screen:

Starting in Minecraft 1.21, you will no longer see particle effects from Bad Omen.

When the Bad Omen effect wears off, the icon will disappear. You will be back to your normal status.

Duration

Depending on how you get the effect, the duration of the Bad Omen effect will be different. To see how much time is remaining for the effect, go to your inventory menu.

In this example, it says Bad Omen III 01:39:38 so this means that there is 1 hour, 39 minutes and 38 seconds remaining of the Bad Omen III effect.

• Icon is the image that will appear when you have this effect.
• Status Effect is what the effect is called and (Minecraft ID Name) is the string value used in the /effect command.
• ID is the Internal number for the effect.
• Platform is the platform that applies.
• Version is the Minecraft version number that the effect was introduced for the name and ID that is listed.
