BiomesBy Luis Joshua GutierrezSamuel HeaneyDan Hammill+39.9k moreUpdated: Jun 14, 2022 11:43am UTC

Biomes are geographically different ecosystems. In the world of Minecraft, these are often defined by a change in foliage, animals, the shape of the land, and the types of blocks that can be found there. This page covers all the Biomes available in the game, as of version 1.19.

Contents:

  • Overworld Biomes
  • Dimensional Biomes

Overworld Biomes

The graph below details all of the biomes that you can encounter in the Overworld, the primary dimension that you'll be exploring in Minecraft, filled with natural plains, oceans, mountains, rivers, caves and more.

We've grouped the biomes into 15 different categories, many of which have unique variants, including those that cross over into other biome types. Many biomes can appear at many different temperatures and thus be blanketed in snow, while others, like Savannahs or Frozen Oceans, only appear at specific temperatures.

Dimensional Biomes

Beyond the biomes located within the standard Overworld of Minecraft, there are others that can only be found in other dimensions. These dimensions, like the different biomes, contain not only different blocks, but different enemies as well. Both of these dimensions are accessed by using a specific type of Portal.
