If you just go straight from one plot point to the next without doing any exploration or side quests, you're missing a lot. With that said, it's a little shorter than Ys VIII. I've played through Ys IX twice and would say it took me about 50 hours both times, while VIII took me about 60 hours. #1 Asawa View Profile View Posts 29 Jun, 2021 @ 4:27pm

Sidecontent is listed as 10 less hours also.YS8 was a vita game, i am a bit baffled why a full blown ps4 game is shorter. #2 The Cold and Solitary Silver View Profile View Posts 29 Jun, 2021 @ 6:46pm

The VITA game was much shorter than VIII remastered actually, because it doesn't have Dana playable forms, her sidequests & dungeon and its bonus form in late game, no night explorations as well. Therefore, you can reach to ch 5 in around 20 hrs compared to usual 30-40. You might as well say VIII receives special treatment in terms of bonus contents. #3 Minneyar View Profile View Posts 29 Jun, 2021 @ 8:33pm

Target console hasn't been a significant indicator of game length for decades. Dragon Quest VII was a PS1 game and took >100 hours to finish the main story, and you could easily spend >200 on it to complete everything.Personally, I felt like XI's story is also quite a bit better paced than VIII's, which spent quite a bit of time at the beginning doing nothing that mattered to the overarching plot. #4 Asawa View Profile View Posts 30 Jun, 2021 @ 3:58am Is dragon quest 7 any good? I like long jrpgs #5 Overclocked View Profile View Posts 30 Jun, 2021 @ 4:15am Most DQ RPGs, especially XI are really good. The DQ 'Heroes' and 'Builders' take a certain taste in games, Heroes feels more grindy by far and one is a tower defense style, Builders...well, is a building game lol.I never played 7 myself yet, but 8 and XI were really good RPG games and pretty similar gameplay wise (you even get the MC costume from 8 in XI), except 8 was much older so a bit more meh.Love to see a remake. If you like Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, this game...you would probably love those.I personally put something like 500 hrs into XI for the first time in a long time, even though my statistics don't show it because I play offline. #6 ladynadiad View Profile View Posts 30 Jun, 2021 @ 11:23pm I played the PS4 version and a almost 100% run took me about 30 hours (I missed a couple of quests my first run). This was on easy though and then I did a second run for the platinum, was about 45-50 hours total. One thing to be aware of in this game is that it will push you towards doing the side quests. In each chapter you have to open up a new area by gathering enough Nox points. This is done by doing side quests and doing battles around the city. You get a lot more points for doing quests and many of the quests are quite fun. One thing to keep in mind in regards to length is that some of the reason for the shorter length is that the game mechanics have greatly improved from 8 and many of the improvements save time. For example, Nox battles are much shorter than raid battles even if they have a bunch of waves. The results display much faster and it's not just your active party members fighting. All six Monstrums are a part of those battles from the very beginning, you just gain access to new characters to play as once they join up and new support abilities as you get more allies. The game also has very little bacxktracking unlike 8 where there is a ton of it. #7 Kaos View Profile View Posts 1 Jul, 2021 @ 5:20am Maybe drop these troll posts baits because forum cops no life ♥♥♥♥♥ like Minne come who never beat any Ys at nightmare. #8 IndigoAK View Profile View Posts 1 Jul, 2021 @ 5:54am

Ys IX is not a full-blown PS4 game. There are ton of indicators in the game that it started development as a Vita title until being moved to PS4 only when Sony announced the Vita EOL in Japan. #9 Blu Neko View Profile View Posts 1 Jul, 2021 @ 7:36am

Well for one thing ys 9 doesn't have load zones like ys 8 for every area. Balduq for example loads every area (except interiors) at once. The field areas feel like actual fields now. Large and unfortunately empty. #10 IndigoAK View Profile View Posts 1 Jul, 2021 @ 10:51am

This doesn't really prove anything. There were several open-world titles on Vita with areas comparable to (or bigger than) Balduq and just as sparsely detailed. Last edited by IndigoAK; 1 Jul, 2021 @ 10:51am #11 GodSlayer View Profile View Posts 1 Jul, 2021 @ 12:30pm

Dragon Quest 7 is one of the best DQ's imo. It's definitely got the best job system because you can turn into a lot of the monsters and you can keep their main skills when you switch. It opens an enormous variety. The downside is that it is very long and takes quite a while to get to the church to start changing jobs. i recommend emulating the 3DS version so you can upscale the sprites, which make the game look really good and it has a bunch of QoL changes from the ps2 game along with being a bit shorter. Even with the turbo button set up, it still took me about 90 hours to finish the game and I didn't do any of the post game stuff. #13 ladynadiad View Profile View Posts 2 Jul, 2021 @ 5:14am

So? That doesn't prove much and considering when 9 released it makes absolutely no sense for Falcom to have started developing it for Vita because the Vita was dying out even once Ys 8 was released in Japan. That's likely why 8 along with Tokyo Xanadu got PS4 ports so quickly.CS3 and CS4 were also PS4 exclusive. We were told it was because the Vita couldn't handle the graphics. Ys 9 has graphics in a style much more like CS3 and CS4, whereas Ys 8 has a style that is an upgrade of Celceta. That alone implies that like CS3 and CS4, the Vita wouldn't be able to handle 9 and it was never intended to be released there. What "evidence" you see likely is a part of the engine and most of the games using that engine were released to handhelds. Considering that even the PS4 has some trouble with parts of it, it's very doubtful this game would have worked on a Vita. And lastly in regards to the length, keep in mind that the majority of Ys titles are actually really short. Lacrimosa of Dana was the longest of all the games and is an outlier. 9 is about the same length as 7 and Celceta. #14 IndigoAK View Profile View Posts 2 Jul, 2021 @ 5:28am It's clear that nobody in this thread has any earthly idea about how game development works or the capabilities of the Vita hardware. #15 < > Showing 1-15 of 30 comments Per page: 1530 50 Ys IX: Monstrum Nox > General Discussions > Topic Details Date Posted: 29 Jun, 2021 @ 4:19pmPosts: 30 Discussions Rules and Guidelines Close
