Crock Pot Rice Recipe - Cooking Fluffy Basmati Or Jasmine
Maybe your like
- Fluffy, non-sticky rice is possible without stirring, thanks to gentle, slow cooking.
- You only need three basic ingredients, with simple options to add flavor or texture.
- This method lets you batch-cook rice for weeknight meals or repurpose leftovers easily.
Our easy crockpot rice recipe is your new weeknight hack. Although making rice on the stove is easy enough, putting it in the slow cooker and getting on with the rest of the things you need to do before dinner time is a true blessing. No need to stir or supervise. This is the perfect recipe for fluffy and delicious rice, every single time.
Of all the types of rice, jasmine and basmati work best for this recipe. Short grain rice is not recommended as its grains get too gummy in the crockpot. If you don't mind rice that's a little sticky, follow the recipe as is. But if you'd prefer a loser texture, always rinse your rice first. Simply run cold water on top of the rice for 3 to 5 minutes to remove the excess starch that causes the grains to stick. Once the rice has finished cooking, fluff up the grains with a fork and let rest for 5 minutes. This will help separate each grain and give you perfect rice.
Although plain rice with salt is always a treat, add to the crockpot dry herbs or other seasonings like powdered garlic, onions, rosemary, thyme, or savory. Alternatively use vegetable or chicken broth instead of water, or a few strands of saffron for flavor and color. Make a double batch to eat throughout the week or make rice pudding with the leftovers. Keep in mind that the newer slow cookers cook food much faster than the older models and the rice can burn if you have a high-temperature slow cooker. Serve as a side dish to any and all of your favorite main dishes.

Cook on low for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. After the cooking time is up, check to see if all the liquid is absorbed. Taste for doneness. Add a few tablespoons of water if the rice is still hard and cook for 1/2 hour longer. Using a fork, fluff up the grains of rice and let sit for 5 minutes before serving.

What Can I Serve With Rice?
The answer to this question is an infinite list of possibilities, as rice is one of the best and easiest side dishes you can have at hand. Here are a few ideal main dishes to serve with this fluffy rice:
- Curries: Nothing says rice like a hot bowl of your favorite curry, as the rice will soak up all the flavorful sauces and make for a wholesome meal.
- Stews: Chicken, beef, and lamb stews served with rice are a great combo and can be a one-bowl meal. Place the rice at the bottom, stew on top, and garnish with chopped parsley for a beautiful presentation.
- Beans: Rice and beans are one of the easiest and most filling combinations out there. Serve your favorite beans with our plain rice, salsa, and slices of avocado.
Don't Overcook Your Rice
To make sure the rice doesn't continue cooking in the warm crockpot even after you have unplugged it, scoop rice into individual dishes for serving, scrape out all of the remaining rice, and transfer the rice to a resealable container.
Also, allow the crockpot to soak while you eat: fill it up with warm water and add a few drops of soap so washing and rinsing the pot after you have finished eating will be a breeze.
