Mazapán de Cacahuate from de la Rosa Iconic Mexican Candy
De la Rosa’s Mazapán disks are a classic Mexican candy sold in bodegas across the country. They are sweet, they are peanut-y and they are the uniquely different than almond-based marzipan I was familiar with. De la Rosa’s Mazapán candies are made of three primary ingredients: crushed peanuts, sugar and additional artificial flavoring. Perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth and a love of peanuts.
The little dulces de cacahuate, or peanut confections, fit in the palm of your hand. (about the size of an Oreo cookie) Despite their small size, one at a time is plenty. Each Mazapán is individually wrapped, and you’re a pro if you can open it up without any cracks! These candies have a crumbly consistency, similar to halvah. Break off a piece, and let the sweetness dissolve in your mouth. The sugar hits you first, followed by a peanut aftertaste. It is a bit chalky and very sweet, so don’t put the whole candy in your mouth at once. Take a small bite, and let it dissolve while you enjoy the flavor.
De la Rosa Mazapán also come covered in chocolate, with toasted coconut or sugar-free.
De la Rosa Company - Making Mexican Dulces for Over 75 Years!
In 1942 Jesus Michel Gonzalez and his family began making candies in their home in Guadalajara, Mexico. From there, the de la Rosa company was born! Today de la Rosa’s Mazapán candies are one of the most well-known candies in Mexico. The company also produces a variety of other sweets, including Pulparindo.
