Working as intended. Also Cyberpunk's HDR implementation is bad, and calibration isn't always cut and dried in the best of cases

Sometimes, but that's low on the list of my problems with HDR. I have it disabled everywhere.

Truth. There are so many garbage sets out there that say "HDR" on them and can't even remotely hit the brightness required for it.

Oct 25, 2017 46,155 My HDR QLED is not true HDR. Like not even 500 nits. It's brighter and the colors are way more dynamic than SDR, but it's not eye searing either. PucePikmin

The OP lists the LG CX which is a great HDR set. You could try lowering the OLED light or setting the "Peak Brightness" setting lower to see if that helps. Also Cyberpunk is best played with HDR off, they really biffed the implementation. CRIMSON-XIII

Member Oct 27, 2017 5,452 its fine with most games but i cant watch some movies with hdr on (lg b9). scenes with flashing light or lightning strikes are unwatchable to me. had to close my eyes during the end of blade 1. rise of skywalker is unwatchable (not a big loss). i was never phosensitive until i watched movies in hdr. edit: i had to stop playing days gone. i tried it on ps5 with hdr (finished it on ps4 when it came out) and the muzzle flash from the machine gun at night almost gave me a seizure. its like my eyes shut down. Member Oct 26, 2017 14,424 Games have surprisingly been fine for me so far, but I've been straight up having a fucking dreadful time with Netflix and other streaming services and HDR. Searingly bright subtitles and UI elements are just great, really what I'm looking for in a TV. Especially with a GF who's prone to migraines and is sensitive to bright lights. HeWhoWalks

Member Jun 25, 2020 11,630 the wilderness With good content on a TV that can do proper HDR, it's not too bright at all. Most HDR presentations are very balanced. But the keywords here are: content and TV. The experience someone will have with HDR heavily depends on the quality of the content and the quality of the TV. As others mentioned, Cyberpunk is notorious for having a subpar HDR presentation. The only HDR content that really made me want to wear sunglasses was the Prospect UHD. And it's part of the intention, the director wanted to give the feeling of the bright, unfiltered light found in space and other planets.

Do you have HGIG or DTM on? dsk1210

dsk1210

Member Oct 25, 2017 2,586 Edinburgh UK Not so much that it is too bright but I feel as though HDR is hit or miss depending on source or game. Death stranding is perfect in HDR out the box but so many games either feel like the black levels are elevated or crushed.

It's not just nits though, right? Contrast plays a big role. LG CX has like what, 800 nits but the HDR looks excellent thanks to the infinite contrast on the OLED. Governergrimm

This is true, though the new Samsung Qleds can supposedly handle 2700 nits. I don't have an HDR set yet but I can only imagine what 2700 would be like.
