Enola Holmes 2 Release Date, Cast And More - Digital Spy

Enola Holmes 2 is just around the corner, meaning we've not got long to uncover the mysteries of the highly-anticipated sequel.

After the sequel was confirmed back in May 2021, we had to wait until September 2022 for the first trailer, teasing the team-up adventure between Enola (Millie Bobby Brown) and her big brother Sherlock (Henry Cavill) in the new movie.

The first movie was a huge hit for Netflix, so much so that it even surprised Brown. "I really didn't think it would be as successful as it was," she admitted in October 2022. "I thought: 'There's so much potential here.' But I didn't realise how much potential."

Will Enola Holmes 2 prove just as big of a hit? We don't have long to wait to find out, but to keep you occupied, here's everything you need to know about the sequel. The game, again, is afoot.

Enola Holmes 2 trailer: Watch the Enola Holmes 2 trailer here!

The first trailer for Enola Holmes 2 was unveiled during Netflix's TUDUM event in September 2022.

It teased the new mystery in store for Enola which involves a missing girl and somehow connects to a case that has been "vexing" Sherlock, leading to a team-up between the Holmes siblings.

We were treated to "part 2" of the official trailer in October 2022, which revealed more of Enola and Sherlock's team-up, as well as the danger she faces.

In the trailer, we get glimpses of a dramatic carriage chase and Enola in trouble with the law, but luckily she's always got Sherlock and her mother Eudoria fighting her corner if she gets into real danger.

Enola Holmes 2 cast: Who's coming back for Enola Holmes 2?

Millie Bobby Brown is, of course, back as Enola Holmes and she has explained she views the series as the "most important moment in my career so far" because she developed them.

"There were so many things that I got to be a part of, and I was really grateful for that. My age and gender has never defined [my job], so everyone on set really respected me and heard me. It was such a nice environment to be able to experience," she added.

Henry Cavill has been confirmed to return as Sherlock Holmes, but there's no word yet about Sam Claflin coming back as Mycroft Holmes. It seems unlikely that he is back, unless they're just keeping it a secret.

During Netflix's TUDUM event in September 2021, Louis Partridge confirmed his return as Tewkesbury. He won't be alone though as Helena Bonham Carter, Adeel Akhtar and Susan Wokoma are back as Eudoria Holmes, Lestrade and Edith, respectively.

There's a host of newcomers joining the fun in the sequel too: Sharon Duncan-Brewster, David Thewlis, Hannah Dodd, Abbie Hern, Gabriel Tierney and Serrana Su-Ling Bliss.

According to EW, Thewlis is playing a shady cop, while Duncan-Brewster is playing a mysterious character with ties to the case that Enola is investigating. That's about all we know about the new characters so far.

Enola Holmes 2 plot: What is Enola Holmes 2 about?

Along with the first images, the official synopsis for Enola Holmes 2 was released by Netflix:

"Now a detective-for-hire like her infamous brother, Enola Holmes takes on her first official case to find a missing girl, as the sparks of a dangerous conspiracy ignite a mystery that requires the help of friends – and Sherlock himself – to unravel," it reads.

That sounds similar to the set-up of the second Enola Holmes Mysteries novel that the movie series is based on. The Case of the Left-Handed Lady saw Enola attempt to track down the missing Lady Cecily Alistair, while avoiding her brother Sherlock.

It's unlikely that the sequel will be an exact adaptation given that the first movie wasn't a direct copy of the book. In the book series, Enola and Sherlock are more adversarial whereas the movie set up Sherlock as a kinder older brother.

"We set the film in the hustle and bustle of London, which is something that we didn't really get to see as much in the first one," Brown teased to EW. "We got to really see what this young girl is doing in this crazy city that surrounds her night and day."

Bradbeer added: "I wanted this story to be a grittier one. I wanted to introduce her to working-class girls in a working-class world. I wanted it to be a completely new world for Enola, so she was more out of her depth."

It's possible that the sequel will also pick up where the first movie left off. We've got a full round-up of the first movie here, but we're more interested in the final moments.

After saving the lord, Enola resumes the search for her mother and she finally gets a coded reply in a newspaper, allegedly from her mother that tells Enola to meet her at the Royal Academy that night.

Enola knows it's just a scam from Sherlock and Mycroft, so she hides as a newspaper seller to confirm her suspicions. They head off disappointed, but Sherlock spots Enola's childhood toy (a pine cone she called Dash), so he knows she was there.

Back in her room, Enola has a surprise reunion with her mother who apologises for leaving her, but Eudoria knew it wasn't "safe" to tell Enola where she was going as she's involved in the Suffragist movement.

She tells Enola that she'll always be there if she needs her, all Enola needs to do is leave her a coded message in the newspaper as before.

In a final monologue to camera, Enola talks about how she needs to find her "own path" like the rest of her family: "I now see that being alone doesn't mean I have to be lonely. Mother never wanted that. She wanted me to find my freedom, my future, my purpose.

"I am a detective, I am a decipherer and I am a finder of lost souls. My life is my own. And the future is up to us."

Enola Holmes 2 will be released on Netflix on November 4.
