Miraculous: Tales Of Ladybug & Cat Noir is an incredibly popular cartoon for viewers of all ages, including a pretty sizable adult fanbase that recognizes the show's shortcomings and adores it regardless. While Miraculous certainly tries to cater to its primary demographic, the showrunners are also aware of who their main audience is. Many of the series' characters are surprisingly complex irrespective of their age, as both the teenagers and adults deal with their own issues and shortcomings.

All the main Miraculous characters get their moments to shine. Despite the title, the series doesn't focus exclusively on the protagonist and her feline sidekick. The entire main cast has its fair share of fans, and with five seasons the show has had plenty of time to dive into its characters and show their growth. As the characters have aged since the first episode it can sometimes be difficult to pin down an age for them, especially the characters that seem timeless, but Miraculous has provided enough information here and there to allow eagle-eyed viewers to fill in the blanks.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng Is the Ever-Optimistic Protagonist

Marinette Dupain-Cheng is Miraculous Ladybug's primary hero. She can fall prey to her social anxiety while in her civilian form but finds her confidence when she dons her Ladybug persona. Marinette is quick-witted, creative, and intelligent, able to devise incredibly innovative ways to save the day while acting as Ladybug. On a personal level, Marinette wants nothing more than to create her own fashion brand.

Despite all of that, Marinette is a teenager and sometimes does not make the best decisions. When Miraculous first begins, Marinette is a 13-year-old girl. Sometime during Season 2 of the series, she turns 14, which is also how old she remains in Season 5. The show typically follows a villain-of-the-week format and was less serialized in the early seasons, so fans often grew frustrated when Marinette would learn a lesson in one episode and seemingly forget about it in the next. In later seasons, however, Marinette goes through significant moments of character growth as she continues to adapt to her increasing responsibilities. As of now, she leads the French Miraculous team of superheroes after having taken over as the Guardian of the Miraculous from Master Fu.

Tikki Has Been Around Since the Dawn of the Universe Itself

Tikki looks like an adorable little companion, so it's easy to forget the depth of wisdom and experience she holds. It is estimated that Tikki is over 13 billion years old because, according to Tikki's history, she has lived since the dawn of the universe itself. This means she is most likely some kind of cosmic entity with potentially limitless powers. As the kwami of creation, she is already the most powerful Miraculous even with Marinette's limited training.

Her kwami siblings came into existence not long after, and they spent a long time traveling the universe before eventually stumbling upon Earth. For over 5,000 years, Tikki helped people transform into superheroes to help save the world, but she didn't find the first true Ladybug Miraculous holder until much later. Tikki's age is so vast that even as time passes throughout the show's seasons, it will be but a drop in the ocean of her life. Her incredibly rich history gives the show unique opportunities to expand on its lore and dive into the past.

Adrien Agreste Is Ladybug's Right-Hand Cat

13 in "Origins," 14 From Season 1 Onward

Adrien Agreste is Ladybug's partner in crime, always ready to drop everything to help her as often as she requires. He revels in the freedom allowed by his secretive Cat Noir persona, as he grew up in a sheltered and very constricting environment. Adrien struggles under the weight of meeting his father's lofty expectations, especially since he works as a model for the Gabriel Agreste brand.

In the "Origins" episodes set just before the start ofMiraculous,Adrien is 13 years old, and from Season 1 onward he has been 14. As a result of being homeschooled all his life, Adrien has never had the opportunity to grow up as a normal kid and therefore experiences several things for the first time once he starts going to school with Marinette and their friends. This means that Adrien is naive in most social situations, with people often trying to take advantage of him for his wealth and fame. It is eventually revealed later in the series that he is actually a hybrid between a sentimonster and a human, something which has no doubt affected his growth throughout his life.

Plagg Has Been Responsible for Numerous Global Apocalypses

Around 13.7 Billion Years Old

Although Plagg's exact age is unknown, he was likely born at the same time as Tikki during the creation of the universe. At the very least, it is known that he was around 66 million years ago since he was the one responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs. As the kwami of destruction, Plagg's powers are the inverse of Tikki's, and together they maintain balance in the universe.

Before Plagg got an owner, he was actually responsible for numerous apocalypses in the Miraculous universe. These include the sinking of Atlantis as well as several other cataclysms throughout human history. He doesn't intentionally mean to do damage, however — the kwamis are simply unable to control their powers if they don't have an owner to keep them in check. Plagg and Adrien create their own balance between the two of them, as Plagg often encourages Adrien to cut loose and pursue his freedom, while Adrien keeps Plagg's more destructive tendencies at bay.

Gabriel Agreste Was the Show's Overarching Villain Until Season 5

Most Likely in His 40s

Despite being Adrien's father, Gabriel Agreste has also been the series' overarching villain, Hawk Moth. With his kwami Nooroo, Gabriel uses the power of the Butterfly Miraculous to akumatize the citizens of Paris in an effort to obtain the Miraculous of Ladybug and Cat Noir. His ultimate goal is to use them to bring back his wife, Emilie, who lies in stasis in a glass case beneath their mansion.

Gabriel's age is never clearly stated in the show. However, it is possible to infer his age based on the events in Miraculous Ladybug leading up to his death in Season 5. When Chloé's mother meets Gabriel, he is a brilliant young prodigy just out of college; this is also around the time he meets his wife. Given this timeline,Gabriel would've had Adrien when he was in his 20s, putting him in his 40s around the time of the show. However, he appears much older in episodes where his hair is silvery-gray rather than light blond, so fans can't be properly sure of Gabriel's actual age.

Alya Césaire Is Known as the Sneaky Fox

Between 13 and 15 Years Old Throughout the Series

Also known as the Sneaky Fox and the Master of Illusion, Alya comes off as being slightly more mature than both Marinette and Adrien, even if she can get a bit too obdurate on occasion. Alya demonstrates her maturity with how she handles children, how well she navigates her relationship with Nino, and how Alya tries to give Marinette sensible advice regarding her crush on Adrien.

Alya is around 15 years old as of Season 5, making her older than Adrien and Marinette. She has an air of responsibility that reflects this, something which saves Marinette's skin time and time again. Alya is the first person Marinette trusts with her secret identity as Ladybug, and on one occasion she even trusts Alya with the Ladybug Miraculous. These actions were directly against Master Fu's orders to Marinette, so it goes to show just how much faith Marinette places in Alya as a dependable friend.

Nino Lahiffe Is One of the Nicest Characters In the Series

Around 13 – 15 Years Old

Nino Lahiffe begins Miraculous Ladybug at the age of 13, but he's currently 15 years old as of Season 5. He's easily one of the most amicable characters in the series, quickly empathizing with the people he cares about and sticking by Adrien as his best friend. A firm believer in justice, Nino can't stand the idea of imbalance in any sense of the word. As a result of his compassionate nature, Nino tends to be rather trustworthy and courageous.

Nino has also saved or helped save his friends on numerous occasions, making him well-suited to be the wielder of the Turtle Miraculous which prizes protection. Although his chill and laid-back attitude means that he isn't as mature as some of his friends, he has a good partner in Alya who is responsible enough for both of them.

Luka & Juleka Couffaine Are Radically Different From Each Other

15 Years Old in Seasons 1-3; 16 Years Old Currently

The twins Luka and Juleka Couffaine are both major players in Miraculous Ladybug, although the brother is technically introduced a whole season later than the sister. Luka is a peace-loving and private individual, although this doesn't mean he'll let people push him around. Much like Nino, Luka can easily identify another person's feelings. His relationship with Juleka is one of the highlights of Miraculous.

For her part, Juleka is considerably more shy and apprehensive than her relatively outgoing brother. As such, she initially believes that she's invisible to pretty much everyone else. However, Juleka soon realizes that she has dear friends whom she desperately wants to protect. When she becomes Purple Tigress, there are very few opponents who can stand in her way. Both Juleka and Luka demonstrate this kind of personal growth throughout the series and also physically grow as they transition from 15 to 16 years old.

Kagami Tsurugi Fights With Ferocity Befitting a Dragon

14 Years Old in Seasons 2 and 3; 15 Years Old Currently

The Dragon Miraculous is naturally powerful, but it is the wielder's inner strength that matters more. Kagami Tsurugi is a fencing master, developing a small but fascinating rivalry with Adrien. As she refuses to back down from a fight, Kagami often takes more risks than are necessary. She even tends to jump to conclusions based on very little evidence, but her zealously ambitious nature ensures that she always finds a way to win a real fight.

Kagami has been 15 years old since Season 4, around the same age as most of her peers. But much like Adrien, Kagami is under substantial pressure from the weight of her mother's expectations and acts older than most of the teenagers around her as a result. Characters who bluntly speak their mind might find themselves without friends, but Kagami has been folded into Marinette's core group despite her inability to express her emotions properly. Through them, she has slowly been able to open up and let out her inner child a little bit at a time.

Chloé Bourgeois Can't Break Free of Her Antagonism

13 – 15 Years Old Like Her Classmates

Chloé Bourgeois is a bit of a complicated character due to how poorly Miraculous Ladybug handles her development. She starts as an antagonist who does her best to get under Marinette's skin, playing into the "mean girl" archetype. To put it mildly, she comes across as demanding, arrogant, and condescending, making her one of the least-liked characters in the series.

The show teases redemption for Chloé at certain moments, but ultimately she transforms into an antihero before returning to her villainous roots for Seasons 4 and 5. Like many of her fellow classmates, Chloé is currently 15 years old as of Season 5 of Miraculous, but she acts far less mature than them. Many fans hope that with time, the show will eventually be able to do her character justice with a proper journey of growth.
