Summary[]

The Five land Exocraft with their respective Geobays

The Five land Exocraft with their respective Geobays

Exocraft are vehicles designed for planetary exploration. With the right technology upgrades, they can locate specific Points of Interest, harvest most resources, and/or engage in combat with Sentinels and hostile fauna. These qualities, in addition to their innate speed, make Exocraft ideal for players who spend plenty of time on a planet's surface.

Currently, there are six Exocraft available to players: the Roamer, the Nomad, the Colossus, the Pilgrim, the Nautilon, and the Minotaur. They are acquired by constructing their respective geobays, which can be unlocked by obtaining their blueprints from an Exocraft Terminal or the research room in the Space Anomaly.

Characteristics[]

General[]

  • Able to move at high speeds.
  • Requires fuel to operate (Example: organic elements such as Carbon or Oxygen).
  • Immunity to fall damage.
  • Can smash through minerals and flora without losing Health.
    • However, you cannot obtain resources by smashing.
  • Tends to get caught on terrain and indestructible objects.

Combat & Defense[]

  • Can be equipped with a Mounted Cannon/Minotaur Cannon/Nautilon Cannon for combat.
    • The cannons can be further upgraded with modules.
  • Can be equipped with hazard protection modules to protect the driver from extreme heat/cold/toxicity/radiation.
  • Can't be attacked by hostile fauna, though they can be damaged by Hazardous Flora.
  • Among the Sentinels, the Drone type will rarely identify it as the player, though the Sentinel Quad and Sentinel Mech can recognize it.
  • If the Exocraft is damaged while boarding, the vehicle's technology may fail (the Exosuit's will not fail).
  • Since Exocraft and the Exosuit share the same amount of health, if the shield strength and remaining amount of the Exosuit are high, it will be less likely to cause a failure of the vehicle while boarding.
    • If the Exocraft's health is depleted, it results in the same ending as Exosuit death since they share the same amount of health.

Item Management & Collection[]

  • Each Exocraft possesses its own Inventory, allowing them to serve as mobile storage units. The operable range of the inventory is within a radius of 50u from the vehicle.
  • Can be equipped with an Exocraft Mining Laser/Minotaur Laser/Tethys Beam, allowing them to mine most resources exceptionally quickly.
    • The Mining Laser can be further upgraded with modules, including one that gives it the same capabilities as the Advanced Mining Laser.
  • Any resources harvested will be transferred to the Exocraft's inventory.
    • Of the resources collected during boarding, by-products such as Geodes will be placed in the Inventory in the other tab if there is no room in the vehicle.

Exploration[]

  • Can be equipped with an Exocraft Radar/Minotaur Radar Array/High-Power Sonar, allowing them to search for Points of Interest on a planet.

Other[]

  • All current status of the vehicle will be saved and is applied when you summon it for the second time.
  • Will not be lost when left on a planet.

Acquiring[]

Exocraft can be acquired by unlocking their respective geobay blueprints from the Exocraft Terminal or the Space Anomaly, which requires Salvaged Data. Players can also learn most geobays for free in the secondary missions Exocraft Technician, Dreams of the Deep, and A Trace of Metal, but these only occur when certain conditions are met. Depending on the player, this may be a long way off, and they won't be able to learn these missions until they've completed each stage.

Once the blueprints are obtained, players can construct them in the Build Menu, provided they have the materials for them.

Notes[]

  • As of v4.08, it's probably best not to rely on the missions. In general, it is recommend learning them in the order you like, starting with the Space Anomaly.
    • However, A Trace of Metal contains new equipment that can only be obtained in this sub-mission. If you like the Minotaur, you might want to prioritize it.

Summoning[]

Each Exocraft can be summoned in their respective geobays. If the Exocraft in question is not already on the planet or star system, it will appear when you place the geobay. If an Exocraft is in another location, placing the geobay will not automatically summon it. It will appear if you interact with the blue panel in its geobay. After summoning an Exocraft, you can deconstruct the geobay when you are done with it. All the materials used to place it will be returned.

Players can also construct an Exocraft Summoning Station to summon an Exocraft from anywhere in a given star system. After summoning a vehicle, you can deconstruct the summoning station when you are done with it. Just like with the geobays, all the materials used to place it will be returned.

Players with a Freighter can construct an Orbital Exocraft Materialiser, allowing them to summon an Exocraft anywhere in a star system as long as their Freighter is in the same system.

The most efficient way of summoning an Exocraft by far is the Exocraft Summoning Unit, an Exosuit techology module that can be purchased from the Space Anomaly. Despite being fairly difficult to craft (requiring both Activated Quartzite and Crystallised Helium, which can only be found in purple star systems), it allows players to summon any Exocraft from anywhere in a galaxy.

Notes[]

  • You can also summon an exocraft from the Quick Menu when on foot. Although it is a single menu item, there are multiple conditions for use. It can only be used when one of the following three criteria are met:
    • The Exocraft is within 4500u of the player's location.
    • The Exocraft is on the same planet or in the same star system as the player.
    • A geobay of the corresponding Exocraft is placed.
  • You cannot summon an Exocraft within a Planetary Settlement.*this is no longer accurate, exocraft bays can be built in settlements and exocraft can be summoned inside settlements.
  • Freighters that do not have the corresponding Hyperdrive technology installed for red, green, or blue star systems cannot be called to summon Exocraft in those systems. In addition to the above two points, there is another prerequisite depending on the star system.

List of Exocraft[]

Roamer[]

The Roamer in action.

The Roamer in action.

  • Technology slots: 28 (including 3 supercharged slots)
  • Cargo slots: 40

The Roamer is the first Exocraft players can unlock, resembling a futuristic car. It is fairly plain compared to other vehicles, though it is a much better option for ground travel than walking. It can be used as a general-purpose vehicle early on and later as a good support for Starships and other Exocraft.

Notes[]

  • Without upgrades, the Roamer can move at around 16.0u/s. When fully upgraded with adjacency bonuses in mind, it can move at around 30.0u/s.
    • By allocating the supercharged slots to the engine and applying boost while at full speed, it can move at around 40.0u/s.
  • Like most Exocraft, the Roamer requires hazard protection upgrades to properly protect the user in hazardous environments.
  • Like most Exocraft, the Roamer's speed drops significantly in water.
  • Other than its boost capacity, the Roamer possesses no outstanding qualities. It is inferior to the Nomad or Pilgrim as a means of ground transportation, but it is still much faster than going on foot.
  • The Roamer's fairly heavy body makes it easily affected by the terrain. It tends to lose speed when driving uphill, though it easily gains speed when driving downhill.

Nomad[]

The Nomad gliding over water

The Nomad gliding over water

  • Technology slots: 26 (including 3 supercharged slots)
  • Cargo slots: 30

The Nomad is a hovercraft with the ability to float on water. This makes it great at crossing terrain that most other Exocraft struggle with. Additionally, its high speed (second only to the Pilgrim) makes it ideal for travel.

Notes[]

  • Without upgrades, the Nomad can move at around 17.7u/s. When fully upgraded with adjacency bonuses in mind, it can move at around 33.7u/s.
    • By allocating the supercharged slots to the engine and applying boost while at full speed, it can move at around 44.6u/s.
  • Like most Exocraft, the Nomad requires hazard protection upgrades to properly protect the user in hazardous environments.
  • The Nomad's light weight makes it easy to jump large distances while boosting. However, its boost capacity is small compared to other Exocraft, so try not to abuse it.
  • The Nomad and Pilgrim are both popular choices for high-speed transportation, with the Nomad being preferred on planets with lots of water and the Pilgrim being preferred on planets with little to no water.
  • Because it only possesses 26 technology slots, you'll have to be careful with how you choose to upgrade your Nomad.
  • Due to its hovering properties, the Nomad can reach very high altitudes on low-gravity planets. With enough thrust, you can practically reach orbit.
  • The Nomad's turret has the fewest blind spots at close range, making one of the better choices for combat against enemies like Sentinels. However, as it also faces downwards the most, this also runs the risk of accidentally heavily damaging yourself when shooting at the ground.
    • The damage from an accidental hit is so powerful that it can instantly wipe out a shield (possibly ignoring defense) even if the cannon is not buffed and the shield is buffed (199% in testing), and it also reduces the attack power by 1. It would be better to remove it by packaging it as a module, which would also help prevent operating errors.

Colossus[]

Close-up of the Colossus Exocraft

Close-up of the Colossus Exocraft

  • Technology slots: 30 (including 3 supercharged slots)
  • Cargo slots: 50

The Colossus is a lumbering, eight-wheeled behemoth of a vehicle that possesses the highest cargo and technology capacity of all Exocraft. It can also be upgraded with a Mineral Processing Rig, allowing it to serve as a mobile Large Refiner. However, its relatively slow speed compared to other Exocraft means that the Colossus isn't the best choice for travelling.

Notes[]

  • Without upgrades, the Colossus can move at around 11.9u/s. When fully upgraded with adjacency bonuses in mind, it can move at around 22.8u/s.
    • When boosting, it can move at around 34.4u/s. By allocating the supercharged slots to the engine and applying boost while at full speed, it can move at around 40.0U/s.
    • The Colossus' speed is heavily dependent on the terrain due to its large size. Rough ground can make its speed drop to 30.0u/s at best and 20.0u/s at worst. While the booster can help to make up for any lost speed, the booster's recovery time is quite slow.
  • Like most Exocraft, the Colossus requires hazard protection upgrades to properly protect the user in hazardous environments.
  • Like most Exocraft, the Colossus' speed drops significantly in water.
    • However, it is actually fairly decent in shallow water (for a land vehicle) across short distances.
  • The Colossus comes with its own Exocraft Mining Laser pre-installed.
  • The Colossus' giant body makes it easy for you to get stuck in holes in the ground. This, combined with its poor brake performance and generally slow speed compared to other Exocraft, means that most players will ignore it when choosing a vehicle for transportation.

Trivia[]

  • According to the story of Exocraft Technician, the Colossus was apparently built to carry multiple passengers into battle at once.

Pilgrim[]

  • Technology slots: 26 (including 3 supercharged slots)
  • Cargo slots: 30

The Pilgrim is a two-wheeled, motorcycle-esque vehicle that possesses the highest top speed of all Exocraft. This makes it perfect for covering large amounts of ground in short periods of time, though such high speeds can make it difficult to control on rough terrain.

Notes[]

  • Without upgrades, the Pilgrim can move at around 18.8u/s. When fully upgraded with adjacency bonuses in mind, it can move at around 34.5u/s.
    • When boosting, the Pilgrim can move at around 41.0u/s. By allocating the supercharged slots to the engine and applying boost while at full speed, it can move at around 55.0u/s.
  • Like most Exocraft, the Pilgrim requires hazard protection upgrades to properly protect the user in hazardous environments.
  • Like most Exocraft, the Pilgrim's speed drops significantly in water.
  • The Pilgrim has a fairly small boost capacity, though it recovers a little faster than the Nomad.
  • The Pilgrim's high speed allows it to climb up steep hills and cliffs much better than other Exocraft.
  • The Pilgrim and Nomad are both popular choices for high-speed transportation, with the Pilgrim being being preferred on planets with little to no water and the Nomad being preferred on planets with lots of water.
  • Because it only possesses 26 technology slots, you'll have to be careful with how you choose to upgrade your Pilgrim.
  • Because the Pilgrim so fast, you'll need to stop in the Nexus Mission "Eliminate Hazardous Flora" to wait for the Hazardous Flora to load. During a mission, it's recommended to stop once you've progressed a certain amount and wait for it to load. This is very useful when the mission target is clearly defined and the travel distance between them is long.
    • Similarly, if you try to search for broken devices or glitches on a planet, it's easy to pass them by.

Nautilon[]

The Nautilon in action underwater

The Nautilon in action underwater

  • Technology slots: 28 (including 3 supercharged slots)
  • Cargo slots: 40

Main Article: Nautilon

The Nautilon is a submersible designed for aquatic exploration. Being the only Exocraft capable of effectively travelling underwater, it is an ideal choice for players looking to explore the depths of planetary oceans. However, the Nautilon is incapable of moving on dry land, rendering it essentially useless on planets without large bodies of water.

Notes[]

  • Without upgrades, the Nautilon can move at around 17.0u/s. When fully upgraded with adjacency bonuses in mind, it can move at around 29.2u/s.
    • By allocating the supercharged slots to the engine and applying boost while at full speed, it can move at around 46.8u/s.
  • The Nautilon is the only Exocraft to not come with hazard protection upgrades.
  • Unlike other Exocraft, the Nautilon does not come with a pre-built engine module.
    • Its engine, the Humboldt Drive, can be unlocked at the Space Anomaly.
  • Unlike other Exocraft, the Nautilon does not use organic elements as fuel. Instead, it uses Hydrothermal Fuel Cells.
    • All the materials required to craft Hydrothermal Fuel Cells (Salt, Cyto-Phosphate, and Carbon) can be found underwater.
  • The Nautilon's Mining Laser, the Tethys Beam, is the only Exocraft mining laser that cannot be upgraded with modules.
    • Even without upgrades, the Tethys Beam is still quite powerful, though its long range does run the risk of accidentally hitting an NPC Starship flying over you.
  • The Nautilon can be upgraded with a Dredging Laser, giving it Terrain Manipulator capabilities.
  • The Nautilon's radar system, the High-Power Sonar, is the only Exocraft radar system capable of locating underwater structures.

Minotaur[]

The Minotaur exploring a planet

The Minotaur exploring a planet

  • Technology slots: 28 (including 3 supercharged slots)
  • Cargo slots: 40

Main Article: Minotaur

The Minotaur is a bipedal mech that possesses the ability to fly for short periods of time. This gives it the ability to cross even the most difficult terrain with ease, though its actual walking speed is very slow. Additionally, the Minotaur can be upgraded to operate autonomously with the Minotaur AI Pilot module, allowing it to assist players on foot.

The Minotaur can also be upgraded with Hardframe or Liquidator modules to further enhance its capabilities.

Notes[]

  • The Minotaur's initial walking speed when is 2.0u/s before speeding up to 4.0u/s after around 3 seconds. Additionally, the flight speed starts out at around 21.0u/s before speeding up to 31.5u/s.
    • The Minotaur Engine Module only improves fuel efficiency and jet time, not top speed or acceleration. When fully upgraded, it will be able to fly about 150u horizontally with a 3-second run-up, 5-second flight, and landing. Another feature is that the feel of the controls is completely the same on land and in water. There is no buoyancy like when swimming in an exosuit, and it sinks with a thud just like on land. It is convenient for stable movement on flat coasts and lake bottoms. On rough ocean bottoms, it is difficult to directly hit the terrain.
  • The Minotaur comes with its own unique hazard protection module (the Environment Control Unit) that provides protection against all four elemental hazards.
  • The Minotaur comes with its own unique radar system (the Minotaur Radar Array) that can find things other Exocraft radar systems cannot.
  • The Minotaur struggles greatly when walking on steep terrain.
    • The booster can help to mitigate this issue.
  • The Minotaur can be upgraded with a Minotaur Bore, giving it Terrain Manipulator capabilties.
  • The Minotaur allows you to collect Storm Crystals without having to exit the vehicle.
  • Minotaurs equipped with the Minotaur AI Pilot module will only attack hostile fauna if they get too close.
  • In combat, the Minotaur is excellent at drawing attention away from the player when equipped with the AI Pilot module, allowing you to focus on enemies without having to worry about being hit as much.
  • The Minotaur's equipment may occasionally break down during prolonged engagements, becoming inoperable unless repaired. As such, it's highly recommended to keep the necessary materials and/or Repair Kits in the vehicle's inventory just in case.
    • You can enable or disable it in the quick menu "Functions". However, it will always be disabled while the Minotaur is in the battle.

Upgrading[]

Each Exocraft is equipped with a minimum amount of technology from the start (i.e. engine, booster, etc.). To improve their capabilities, players can construct technology upgrades and purchase upgrade modules in order to turn them from basic vehicles into planet-crossing powerhouses.

Notes:

1. Upgrade modules should be added adjacent to the core system where possible, to a maximum of three upgrades in a single exocraft. This is best achieved by arrangements in a 2x2 box, or as a slightly lower cumulative gain as a line of 3 vertically or horizontally adjacent to the core system.

Notes[]

  • Exocraft have the advantage of being able to use all their supercharged slots immediately after obtaining them. This means that they can be upgraded much faster than most Starships, provided you can obtain their upgrade modules quickly.

Notes/Trivia[]

  • As revealed in Exocraft Technician, most of the Exocraft seem to have been developed by the Vy'keen long ago.
  • There exists an unreleased Exocraft called the Dragonfly, which was a hovercraft with 16 slots with a similar appearance to the Nautilon. As of now, the only way to retrieve this vehicle is to copy and paste the locations of one of the other Exocraft that are visible in the save editor.
