Facebook Set to Lose 1.4 Million Users This Year Amidst Rapid Decline 6/05/2022 11:00:00 PM Facebook was once the standard bearer for the social media industry, with its addictive algorithm and easy user interface making it the single most popular social media platform for many years. It continues to have the highest number of total users, but in spite of the fact that this is the case it is predicted that its US user base is going to decrease for the first time ever over the course of 2022.It is estimated that Facebook’s US user count by the end of the year will be around 178.3 million, or 1.4 million lower than the record numbers it reached last year. This is the first time in its history that Facebook is seeing a drop in user numbers, and with all of that having been said and now out of the way it is important to note that almost all of these lost users are under the age of 25. Users under 25 have been representing an increasingly small percentage of the Blue App’s total user base, but the platform was able to mitigate their losses by a relatively steady rate of growth amongst users older than 25. In spite of the fact that this is the case, users over 25 are not growing rapidly enough to offset the loss of younger users, and this trend is expected to continue for the next few years. Facebook can’t rely on older users because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up making it an obsolete platform. Younger users are always the most prized demographic for a social media platform to cater to, and Facebook is quickly becoming the worst place to put ads for such users. It is predicted that Facebook will only have 23.3 million users under 25 in the US, down from the 26.8 million that it currently has. Its user base that is older than 25 is expected to see meager growth from 151.5 million in 2022 to 154.3 million, so it will only gain 3.3 million users for the over 5 million it will lose.
