As part of the metro New York economy and home to four of Connecticut's most dynamic and diverse metropolitan areas (Stamford, Norwalk, Bridgeport and Danbury), the Fairfield region is remarkably diverse. Advanced manufacturing, financial services, professional services and healthcare top the employment categories in the region. While nineteen Fortune 1000 corporations call this region home, it is well represented by a growing number of small businesses as well. And our diverse, skilled and mobile workforce is just one of the many reasons that the Fairfield region is considered by many to be a ‘global neighborhood.’

According to Forbes, Fairfield County ranks 8th in the nation for education, with over 45% of residents holding a bachelor’s degree or higher. Interestingly, 52% of bachelor’s degree holders are from out of state and almost 20% are foreign born, meaning that some of the smartest workers choose to come here for career opportunities.

The region may be home to global names and industry leaders, but it also fosters an entrepreneurial energy that attracts start-ups and inspires many to reinvent the ways of doing business.

Recently jumping from 9th to 6th in the State Technology and Science Index, Connecticut’s potential in the digital technology industry is limitless—and the Fairfield Region is leading the charge, particularly in the computer, entertainment and communications industries.

Empowering access to the world.

Our enviable location allows over 62,000 Fairfield County residents to work in New York State, while 43,000 New York residents make the commute into Fairfield County. The region is served by mass transit, interstate highways and picturesque parkways. As commuting into and out of the region accelerates, Stamford’s Transportation Center has become the busiest station outside of Grand Central on Metro-North’s New Haven line.

Quality of life second to none.

With a cost of housing that is 11-42% lower than either New York City or Boston, Connecticut offers the benefits of being near those markets, with all the advantages of not being within them—like affordable housing options, great schools, dynamic neighborhoods and outdoor lifestyles.
