  • Start the vehicle.
  • Turn the steering wheel one turn to the right and one turn to the left.
  • Drive in a short distance straight line on a level surface at a speed not higher than 20 km/h.
  • If the steering wheel is straight during the test drive then stop the vehicle with the wheels pointed straight.
  • Ensure that the steering wheel is not moved again.
  • Keep the engine running and do not switch off the ignition.
  • System voltage at least 12.0 V.
[Select] [03 - Brake Electronics] [Coding-II - 11] OR (if Coding-II is not available) [Security Access - 16] Enter 40168, to enable the basic setting. [Do it!] [Basic Settings - 04] Group 060 [Go!] Activate the Basic Setting. [ON/OFF/Next] After a successful basic setting, field 2 should say "OK". [Done, Go Back] To make sure the basic setting was succesful, check the sensor again. [Measuring Blocks - 08] Group 004 [Go!] Check field 1, the value has to be between -1.5 and +1.5 °. [Done, Go Back] [Close Controller, Go Back - 06] #3 · Sep 26, 2017 Your first steps are to try to reset the sensor and to visually inspect the sensor and the wiring to look for any signs of damage. After that, it is replace the sensor time. #4 · Sep 26, 2017 The story continues. I called my Local VW stealer, they have no idea. Usual story you need to bring in the car and hand over your wallet. During the drive home last night the ESP light went off, has no come on since. I ran an auto scan and the above fault is still there. Delete all faults and its still there with the mileage at 95488km. I do not think its a failed sensor more likely related to the steering wheel being 5 deg off on the way to the tyre shop. Interesting that the fault can't be deleted. #5 · Sep 27, 2017 Even if the dealer knows (has seen the exact problem a lot) they are not likely to help you until you fork over some money. If you drove it with the center off at 5 degrees, I could see the computer setting a fault. If you then centered the steering wheel mechanically, I can see the computer (usually after x trips or y miles, with no detected faults) turning off the check light. Turning off the light in that case will not erase the error from memory. You should be able to clear it with VCDS. I would think that clear codes would do it. Worst case would be it would relearn the basic settings to get it out of the system. In this case, even if you leave the error in memory, I can think of no problems that the logged error will cause. It might confuse the dealer or the next person to scan the car, but that would be about it. #6 · Sep 27, 2017 any pictures of the worn bushes, etc Warrenza? is it just the front ones you replaced? Hope you get this error sorted out. #7 · Sep 27, 2017 (Edited by Moderator) No photos.
  • The bottom bushes were cracked. Front and strut bush replaced.
  • Both Top bushes cracked replaced.
  • All up 10no bushes replaced. Meyle band used. All bolts replaced.
  • Had the lower Ball joints injected.
  • Did the O rings in the struts old ones were "square" hence the leak.
  • Hardest part Pulling the windscreen wipers off and the steering fault.
