We love spending time buying cute and comfy lingeries. But panties are those lingerie that gets lesser attention than the other one, bras. This is due to the simple reason that no matter how lovely a pair of pants we buy for ourselves, they develop light patches on the crotch area after only a few wears.
Once they get those light patches and no matter how much we wash them, they are there to stay. Especially for black or other darker shades of panties, they are a curse. However, have you ever wondered what's causing these light bleach patches on your panties? Well the answer is obvious: it's the vagina. Read on to know more about these spots.
What's Causing Bleach Patches In Your Underwear?

Vagina's discharge, which is naturally on the acidic side, causes those white or yellow stains on your underwear’s crotch region.
The vagina's discharge’s pH level generally varies between 3.5 and 7. This leaves patches on your panties, which turn orange when you wash them.
To know more about these spots, we talked toDr. Rajalaxmi Walavalkar, IVF Consultant and Endoscopic Surgeon, Cocoon fertility. She said that,
"Natural secretion is normally acidic so when it comes in contact with fabric. It will bleach it and leave white spots."

Are Bleach Patches On Panties A Bad Sign?

Your vagina has good bacteria called lactobacilli, which keeps the vagina healthy by maintaining optimum acidity levels and preventing bad bacteria from causing infection. When acidic discharge is exposed to the air, oxidation can result in yellow and orange stains on underwear. This discharge is a natural part of your vaginal self-cleaning process.

This means that patches on your pants aren't necessarily a bad thing.
The pH of a healthy vaginal discharge might fluctuate owing to a variety of circumstances, including your sex life, hormones, and the menstrual cycle. Due to an increase in cervical mucus, this discharge increases during ovulation and pregnancy.
However, if you think there is too much discharge being produced, you must make an appointment with your gynecologist.

How To Prevent These Bleach Stains?

However the stains on underwear are not a part of the problem, but if you want to keep them from ruining your cute and fancy underwear, follow these steps:
- Wear a pair of pantyliners the whole day. These will act as a barrier between your vulva and your underwear, keeping the vagina's acidic discharge from directly contacting the fabric of your underwear.
- After wearing your underwear, immediately rinse it. This will prevent the bleaching agent from sticking to the fabric, potentially preventing the effect.
- Allow your underwear to soak in water for a few minutes before washing. This step might be helpful.
