Subscriber features Email (Subscriber Feature) Cite (Subscriber Feature) Florida state seal Florida's seal was designed in 1868. The state motto, “In God We Trust,” may have been taken from the American silver dollar. In 1985 it was corrected for errors. The seal depicts a scene with a Seminole Indian woman scattering flowers by a shore in the foreground, a sabal palm tree (until 1970, a cocoa tree) in the middle distance, and a steamboat on the water in the background before a sun on the horizon. © Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc. ×
