Fortnite: Mending Machine Locations (& What They're For)

Fortnite’s Mending Machines are a unique type of vending machine that can be found all across the Fortnite island, dispensing a few valuable items players can use to patch themselves up after particularly intense firefights. Vending machines have been present on the Fortnite island for many seasons, dispensing all kinds of useful items for players to stock up their inventories, but the game’s run-and-gun gameplay tends to favor healing on the go. As such, players accustomed to the usual stock of large and small bandages, medkits, and shield potions may not be too familiar with the functions of Mending Machines and, perhaps more importantly, where to find them. However, a recent quest objective challenges players to purchase something from a Mending Machine in return for experience points for the new Fortnite Battle Pass, and luckily they’re easy to track down.

Mending Machines are similar to Fortnite’s other vending machines, which commonly dispense weapons and random consumable items in return for Gold Bars. As their name suggests, Mending Machines dispense healing and shield items, including bandages and medkits for healing health damage, as well as shield potions players can use to build up their protective shields. Critically injured players with only the tiniest slivers of health remaining can also use the Mending Machine’s unique Patch Up service to recover a lot of health quickly, although at the relatively high cost of 100 Gold Bars.

Players will need Gold Bars to buy items from Mending Machines, which can be obtained from several sources, including by defeating enemies, opening chests, and rather intuitively from opening cash registers. Unlike Fortnite’s unique Exotic Weapons, most items sold at a Mending Machine are relatively cheap. For example, bandages and medkits are a meager 10 and 25 Bars, respectively, while small shield potions cost 30 Bars. However, shield potions cost 120 Bars, and the Patch Up service costs 100 Bars for single use, making these less economical.

The Fortnite island currently has a total of ten Mending Machines players can visit, all of which are located at gas stations. Here's where they can be found:

Some of these locations, such as Coney Crossroads, are also among Fortnite’s best landing spots this season, so players should keep an eye out for other players. It’s worth remembering that although all of the current Mending Machines can be found at gas stations, not all island gas stations have Mending Machines. In any case, it’s easy enough for players to find one and buy a roll of bandages to complete one of their objectives and earn some easy Battle Pass XP.

It’s worth noting, however, that the utility of Mending Machines is questionable, as players can usually find most of the items they dispense in chests or as ground loot and won’t be charged Bars for them. Still, for anyone who’s taken too many headshots from Fortnite’s vicious Hammer Assault Rifles, they can be helpful in a pinch as long as players make sure they don’t end up spending all of their hard-earned Bars.
