Halloween events officially began in 1988 at Six Flags Over Texas and expanded to several other parks within the Six Flags chain in the seasons to follow. The first Halloween-related activity at Six Flags Over Texas took place in 1973 and featured a parade and roaming monsters. In 1988, an annual Halloween event, Fright Nights, debuted. The event has always boasted spooky decor and Halloween-themed live entertainment. The 1992 season brought on the birth of Fright Fest. In 1999, the Six Flags chain had a series of haunted houses themed around Alice Cooper, marking the first time Fright Fest featured a popular franchise theme. Six Flags Over Texas’ well-known production, Welcome to Arania’s Nightmare, ran for twenty-five seasons inside the Southern Palace Theatre.

Tips & FAQ
Helpful information to get the most out of your visit to Fright Fest at Six Flags Over Texas.
-
Fright Fest Chaperone Policy
Six Flags Over Texas requires that all guests 17 years of age or younger must be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21 years old to be admitted into Six Flags Over Texas and to remain in the park during designated times.
The Chaperone Policy is in effect daily beginning at 6:00 PM local time. Six Flags Over Texas reserves the right to implement the policy earlier on any given day, which will be clearly communicated through official channels (e.g., website, app, social media, signage).
A valid government-issued photo ID with date of birth is required for all chaperones at entry.
One (1) chaperone may accompany no more than ten (10) guests aged 17 or younger.
Chaperones must:
Enter the park with their group.
Remain on park property for the duration of the group’s visit.
Be readily available by phone and able to respond to park staff if needed.
Guests 18 years of age or older may be required to present ID to verify their age. Those unable to verify age may be denied entry unless accompanied by a qualifying chaperone.
Guests 17 and under who are found in the park without a chaperone while the policy is in effect will be subject to immediate removal from the park.
Chaperones who do not fulfill their responsibility (e.g., leaving the park, unreachable by phone) may result in the removal of their entire group.
This policy applies to all guests attending Six Flags Over Texas and is designed to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for all.
-
Fright Fest Bag Policy
To support a safe environment for our guests and to help expedite entry during Fright Fest, Six Flags Over Texas is implementing enhanced bag restrictions after 6:00 PM local time daily.
Bag Requirements
After 6:00 PM, all bags must be no larger than 12” x 12” x 6”, regardless of material (clear or opaque).
Each guest is permitted to bring only one bag into the park after 6:00 PM.
All bags are subject to thorough inspection prior to entry at any time.
Oversized bags will not be permitted into the park after 6:00 PM.
Exceptions
Medically necessary items are permitted after proper inspection.
Guests with special circumstances may speak with a security supervisor upon arrival for consideration on a case-by-case basis.
Additional Notes
This policy applies to all bag types, including backpacks, purses, diaper bags, and camera bags.
Six Flags Over Texas recommends guests minimize the number of items they bring to help streamline the entry process.
-
No Re-Entry Policy
To support the safety and flow of park operations during Fright Fest, guests who exit the park after 6:00 PM will not be permitted to re-enter the park on the same day. This no re-entry policy is in effect during all Fright Fest hours.
Guests are encouraged to plan accordingly before exiting the park after the policy is in effect.
Please note: No exceptions will be made once a guest has exited the park during restricted hours, regardless of ticket type. Re-entry is not permitted for forgotten items, weather conditions, or personal needs.
-
Haunted House Photo/Video Policy
For the safety of our scare actors and guests—and to preserve the immersive experience—no cameras, photography, video recording, or audio recording of any kind is permitted inside haunted mazes. This includes the use of cell phones, smartwatches, GoPros, camera eyeglasses, body cameras, or any other recording-capable device.
Guests observed using recording devices inside haunted mazes may be subject to removal from the park without refund.
-
Costume Dress Code
To maintain a safe and family-friendly environment, the following costume and mask guidelines are in place at Six Flags Over Texas:
Costume masks, full face paint, and costume attire are not permitted for guests aged 11 and older.
Trench coats, flak jackets, or similar military-style apparel are not allowed inside the park.
No masks of any kind are permitted on rides at any time.
Exceptions
Children 10 years old and under may wear costumes and masks during daytime hours as part of kid-focused events in designated areas only.
This policy does not apply to masks worn for health or safety purposes, such as those intended to reduce the spread of COVID-19 or other illnesses, as interpreted by park staff. Final discretion rests with park management.

-

Tips for Avoiding Crowds
We do not have a 100% guaranteed solution for avoiding crowds. This is one of the busiest times of the year to visit a Six Flags park. However, there are a few methods we have tried in the past that have helped:
Go earlier in the season. Fright Fest starts in September. You will likely not run into the heavy crowds that are present the closer it gets to Halloween.
Go on an off-day. Have you thought about going to Fright Fest during the week on a Friday? This has sometimes been a great way to avoid the weekend crowd.
Do not go on coupon dates. If there is a deal for bringing friends free or discounted tickets we highly recommend that you do not go to the park if you are bothered by large crowds.
Try going on a Sunday. This isn't always the case, but sometimes Sunday is a less-crowded day than Saturday. We still think the closer it gets to Halloween the busier Sundays will inevitably get.
-
Popular Halloween Shows
We recommend arriving to venues earlier than usual to ensure you have a good view. Please note that some outdoor venues, such as Silver Star Carousel Stage and Court House Stage, have incredibly limited seating and viewing areas. Show schedules, when available, can be found in the “Entertainment” section above.
-
Thrills by Day, Fright by Night
Due to its content, Fright Fest is not recommended for guests under 13. During the day, Six Flags Over Texas offers Kids Boo Fest, a family-friendly Halloween alternative.
-
Unavoidable Scares
During the day, scare zones do not feature any monsters. However, once night falls, all scare zones are filled with scary characters with the sole intent to frighten the guests around them. Please note that many park attractions cannot be accessed without traveling through various scare zones within the park.
