Ukrainian - Russian Hello! When writing a letter I am tempted to say, "I hope everything goes well for you." Is it correct or I need to say, "I hope everything's going well for you."? Why? "Dear Anna, Thanks for your letter. How are you doing? I hope everything goes well for you." Thank you! DonnyB

Coventry, UK English UK Southern Standard English You could use either, but the simple tense "goes well for you" carries more of a sense of things being planned for the future. If the letter opens by asking Anna how she is and what's happening at the moment then the continuous tense "is going well for you" is a better choice. I

Thanks a lot for your reply, DonnyB. Could you make an example for me to better understand the future use of 'goes well for you'? DonnyB

Maybe at the end of the letter where you've been writing about Anna's new job, or move to a new town or some change in her life, you could sign off with: "I hope all goes well for you". :) I
