Chicken can be boring and there is no shortage of spices out there to add to it. But let’s shake things up a bit and add some Mediterranean flavors.
Of course you can buy a spice mix from the store, but they always contain “extra” stuff that doesn’t add any extra favor, just keeps them expensive. So I like to make my own!
This recipe is way better than the Cavender’s you find in the store. Trust me! It’s perfect for making a Greek salad dressing on this chopped Greek salad.

Ingredient Notes
- Garlic powder – Use garlic powder rather than granulated garlic because it is finer if possible.
- Onion flakes – If all you have is onion powder, that will work fine too.
- Oregano – Greek oregano is best but use what you have.
- Lemon pepper seasoning – If you are making a dressing or marinade use lemon juice.
- Marjoram – Marjoram tends to be more on the sweet side with floral scents.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it last?If you store your Greek seasoning recipe in an airtight container, it will last for up to six months. If you don’t use it all before then:)
How do you store it?The best way to store any of your spices or spice mixes is in a glass, airtight container, out of direct sunlight, and in a dark and cool place. I love to make a large batch and store it in a mason jar. I use it so much it doesn’t last long. Not next to the stove, on the counter top, under a window with full sun. Unless you are planning on using the entire batch in a week.
Is it gluten free, paleo, keto, or whole 30 compliant?Yes, it is all three! And this homemade mix doesn’t contain MSG! The best benefit of making your own spice blends.
Is it the same thing as Mediterranean Seasoning? They are basically the same only Mediterranean flavors usually include cloves and cardamom. Authentic Greek flavor contains marjoram that is not usually found in Mediterranean seasoning.

Depending on the recipe, I like to start with 1-2 teaspoons of spice mix. You can always add more if you need more flavor.
