Herbed Steak Fries Tips

Can you make your own steak fries instead of using frozen fries for this recipe?

Of course! Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes will make the best baked steak fries at home. You can slice one end off and use an apple slicer to cut your fries as shown in our guide to making restaurant-worthy steak fries. Otherwise, use a sharp knife to quarter and then slice the potatoes lengthwise.

Can you make this herbed steak fries recipe ahead of time?

You can blanch your sliced potatoes—that is, soak them in cold water—for anywhere from 45 minutes to a few hours before company comes. Just make sure to serve them immediately after baking. Learn more techniques on making the crispiest baked French fries.

What can you serve with steak fries?

For starters, steak! Try this fantastic garlic-butter steak. A good old-fashioned burger would do the trick, too!—Elizabeth Harris, Taste of Home contributing writer TEST KITCHEN APPROVED
