LightsOutLacy50 I was ready to take Yeep to get inspected today and he apparently did not want to go. The revs at idle were in-between 3,000-4,000 WAY TO HIGH. I've had this happen before and it always subsides after a couple flexes of the gas pedal but today Yeep was not having it. I thought I solved this problem since it hasn't happened in around a month. All signs point to this being an IAC or a TPS problem, but I cannot find these sensors anywhere! I have looked up online where they are supposed to be but since my Jeep was converted to FI, the throttle body is much different and I cannot find these sensors anywhere. Attached or pictures of my engine bay to see if maybe you guys could find it since I personally cannot. If you guys think it is something else than let me know please! I just want to drive the Yeep!!!! #1 · Mar 31, 2018 I was ready to take Yeep to get inspected today and he apparently did not want to go. The revs at idle were in-between 3,000-4,000 WAY TO HIGH. Please I am desperate! #3 · Apr 1, 2018 1989 Wranglers were originally carbed. A Howell fuel injection system is a popular conversion. I don't know what a Howell FI system looks like. Perhaps if you contact Howell, they can help you. Good Luck, L.M. #4 · Apr 1, 2018 Happy Easter Everybody! After extensive research online trying to find what the heck I have on my Jeep whether it's FI or a Carburetor, I finally found out. It's a carburetor. Weber 38/38 DGES in fact which happens to be a really good carburetor, when working properly... Anybody know anything about these? Specifically with the high idle I specified earlier and also a rough low idle?

#5 · Apr 1, 2018 Good find. You are correct. I had that carb on my 87 20 years ago. Mine also idled high. Download the install guide from the morris page. It has a really good section on setting the idle and labels all the parts for you. #6 · Apr 1, 2018 Quadratec has a Haynes manual for Weber carbs ($18.00). If the Morris download doesn't have the answer you need, you might look into the Haynes manual. Good luck, L.M. #7 · Apr 2, 2018 After further review is an EMPI 32/36 carb. #8 · Apr 2, 2018 (Edited) I found someone with the same issue as me @Luckymac and he claims that his secondary butterfly valve would cause the high idle when it was not closed all the way. After adjusting that, and adjusting the mixture screws again, it purred at 750 rpms. Does that sound about right to you? My idle cannot be sustained until the vehicle is completely warmed up. The idle cannot be sustained on its own, it is at 600-400 RPMs and is extremely sputtery and dies out. Once in a while it will go up to a racing 3000-4000 RPMs, but will go down after flexing the gas pedal multiple times (Amount of times varies). I also have some carbon coming out my tail pipe which was not happening before, which I believe indicates that it is running rich? The car does shake a bit during low RPM range. It just does not idle well at all. What do you think? #9 · Apr 2, 2018 I'm unfamiliar with the Weber carb, but I would expect that like most carbs, it has an idle screw on the linkage, or at least some way to adjust low idle. If the idle can't be sustained until the engine is completely warmed up sounds like a choke adjustment issue. Perhaps bumping the low idle up just a slight amount will cure both issues without having to adjust the choke. Good Luck, L.M. Insert Quotes Post Reply
