ZONA Z I've concluded recently that I can't afford a newer Jeep and thus have to start looking for good deals on older Jeeps. From what I've read around here, I at least want to stay with the fuel injected I6 engine rather then the carb engines. What year did Jeep start using the fuel injected I6 and what models? Also, was it that same year they started using front coils rather then leafs or was that a different year they started doing that. Thanks guys. #1 · Feb 1, 2006 I've concluded recently that I can't afford a newer Jeep and thus have to start looking for good deals on older Jeeps. What are they? #3 · Feb 1, 2006 (Edited) 1997 was the first year for coils. There is no 1996 Wrangler they didnt make them. FI was started in 1991 I beleive. You just have to look under the hood and see if its a 6 I think sport models were 4 cyl. And no matter what people say the leaf sprung jeeps really arent that bad. There are kits to make it FI but they are about 2000 bucks. Just keep looking for a FI from the factory. #4 · Feb 2, 2006 I have a 93 with fuel injection #5 · Feb 2, 2006 I think I'm going to try and find a 97 but with high miles to keep price down. #6 · Feb 2, 2006 i had an 89 commanche with 4l that was a fuely #7 · Feb 2, 2006 IIRC All 4 banger wranglers are FI #8 · Feb 2, 2006 Fi I haven't seen a FI kit for 2 grand. I've seen a Howell for around $1100 and the Mopar MPI for a shit load more. I think after you buy the balancer that's required , but not included it's around 3 grand. #9 · Feb 2, 2006 '90 YJs were the first wranglers with FI sixes iirc. I know '87-'89 for sure had carbed sixes. Coils began with the TJs, so '97 was the first year. You can get a TJ for $5000 to $6000 if you look around hard enough, early 90s YJ for $1500 to $2500. #10 · Feb 3, 2006 if you want a good fuel injected engine and your looking for a wrangler JEEP used a better system starting in '92 even though they started FI Yj's in 89 or 90. #11 · Feb 4, 2006 Well you dident specify which jeep you were looking for but they started using the FI 4.0 in the XJ in 87. Just FYI #12 · Feb 4, 2006 Ok so here you go In 1987 they released the 4.0 fi In the (xj)cherokee and the (mj)comanche pick up they both had coil spring fronts an leaf rears. In 1993 they released the zj grand cherokee. It had coils springs front and rear with i6 and v8's fuel injected 1997 came the tj with coils front an rear with fi:flipoff2: #13 · Feb 5, 2006

Model year 1991 was the first year of the 4.0L fuel injected engine in the Wrangler. The 1990 still had the carb. Insert Quotes Post Reply
