How And Why Did Gilderoy Lockhart Ever Become A Hogwarts ...

We find out that Gilderoy Lockhart is the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, book 2 of the HP series by J.K. Rowling, but, after being introduced to him and getting to know him a bit, haven’t you ever wondered just how and why he ever got hired to be a professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry?

What in the world was Albus Dumbledore thinking when he decided to hire Gilderoy Lockhart?

Why did Albus Dumbledore, the school’s headmaster, choose to hire Lockhart as the DADA teacher? Didn’t he interview Lockhart first before deciding to hire him? If he didn’t, don’t you think that he should have? After all, without interviewing Gilderoy, then how could he have known whether the guy was fit to be the DADA teacher or not?

But, if Albus did interview Lockhart, that still doesn’t explain why he decided to hire him. Surely, the headmaster would have noticed that the guy wasn’t exactly the right choice to be a Hogwarts teacher. Shouldn’t he have realized that said guy was incompetent?

So why and how could Dumbledore decide to appoint Lockhart to be the new DADA professor? Why didn’t he find someone else much more suitable and capable for the job? Surely, he would want the students to be able to adequately learn how to defend themselves against the Dark Arts and that means letting them be taught by competent and great teachers.

What did the Hogwarts teachers think about Gilderoy Lockhart?

Speaking of teachers, what did the other Hogwarts professors, like Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape, have to say about Lockhart? Didn’t they notice that something was off or amiss with the guy and that he wasn’t really a good or a capable teacher? If so, then why didn’t they say anything about this? Why didn’t they complain or have Lockhart removed?

After all, McGonagall cared about the students and would surely want them to get a good education and Snape didn’t exactly like Lockhart so why would they want him to stay? And if none of the professors noticed Lockhart’s incompetence, then why didn’t they see this? Weren’t they observant in the least? Shouldn’t they be paying attention to these kinds of things?

What’s your theory on why Dumbledore decided to hire Lockhart and why the other teachers didn’t complain or say anything about this?
