How Do I Power Cycle Or Reboot My NETGEAR Router? | Answer

If you are experiencing problems with your NETGEAR router, you might want to reboot it. Sometimes a reboot is all that’s needed to resolve basic connectivity issues. All of your WiFi settings are saved when you reboot your router.

This article describes how to reboot your router with the Power button or Nighthawk app. If your router is difficult to access and you cannot use the Nighthawk app, you can also reboot it from the router web interface. To power cycle or reboot your NETGEAR router with the Power On/Off button:

  1. Power off your router by pressing the Power On/Off button.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Power on your router by pressing the Power On/Off button.

The Power On/Off button is located on the back of most NETGEAR routers. If your router doesn’t have a Power On/Off button, unplug your router, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.

To power cycle or reboot your NETGEAR router with the Nighthawk app:

  1. Launch the Nighthawk app from a mobile device.
  2. Tap Connect remotely. The Nighthawk app dashboard displays.
  3. Tap the home icon on the top left of your screen.
  4. Tap REBOOT. A confirmation message displays.
  5. Select Reboot. A rebooting screen displays and your router reboots. Note: It might take up to 2 minutes for your router to reboot.
