You press on the button and slide upwards and the compartment opens and you’ll see where the 4 AA batteries go. Button that says open. Do you? | Report I was repacking to return as I spent way too much time with 'directions' for perhaps an earlier version. The box had an arrow pointing to the middle of the base!! Here is what I did to get to the battery compartment located at the point that the handle is inserted. 1.insert the handle into purple base. You'll see the light purple piece that it locks into. 2. Press and slide up the light purple piece. ( Do this while holding the swiffer steady by the handle.) It will slide off completely. Here is where you insert the 4 batteries. Push the white button on the front of the Wetjet panel to release the bottle of cleaner. Remove the bottle and set it aside to avoid leaks while changing the batteries.Step 2: Open the Compartment Hold down the purple tab below the white bottle-release button and gently swing the battery compartment door open.
