When I cave, I generally use 20% brightness so I can see what is dark and what isn't. However, I recently realized that unless I want to make a near ground mob system, there is no reason for me to light caves up all the way. I see lots of people use 100% brightness or almost 100% when they go cavesploring, and they generally just use enough light to see by. What do YOU do to light caves? I randomly place torches everywhere. If a spot seems a little bit dark to me, I light it. I get pretty paranoid about light levels. I always place torches on my right so I can find my way out easily, sort of like Mrcycloboy. However, I don't block tunnels off because I like my caves to have a naturaul look. I don't know why I just like it better that way. I keep brightness on 100% but only because my computer isn't that good and place torches often to stop mobs from spawning. I almost always place torches standing straight on the ground. This easily gives me the most coverage per torch. Only put them on walls in ravines and tall caves. Rollback Post to Revision RollBack

Guide torches go on the right wall and any additional torches to keep mobs down go on the ground. Rollback Post to Revision RollBack

I don't put any torches unless I plan to make a mob system. With 100% brightness, smooth lighting off, fast graphics and max monitor brightness I can perfectly see everything, so why waste coal/charcoal? Rollback Post to Revision RollBack

Quote from ivyn quadrants. I place them every 4 blocks in the X and Z direction. It takes a while, but I have only once had a mob attack me in a cave lit using this method.
really, you'd be perfectly safe with torches every 12 blocks, really... you're using up 3 times as many torches. overkill, much? Rollback Post to Revision RollBack

Why do people insist on putting you in big capital letters? of course it is us, we don't need you to go YOU. Also, I use craptons of torches because my base is a cave system Rollback Post to Revision RollBack
