Step 1. Press the windows logo key on your keyboard, which should open up the start menu. Begin typing "%appdata%" without the quotation marks ("). Step 2. When the folder pops up, click on it. Then click on the ".minecraft" folder. Step 3. There are probably several folders, all with funny names on them. Below all the folders, there should be a lot of other files with even funnier names on them. Find the file called "options.txt". If you use badlion or optifine, there will be ones called "optionsbadlion.txt" or "optionsof.txt". Just double click the one called "options.txt" Step 4. On about the 20th line down, you should see a line of text that says "gamma: 1.0". This is the default gamma level, which makes light levels normal. Change the number that comes after the word "gamma" from 1.0 to 10.0. Ten is the maximum gamma level that applies in minecraft; you can make it go to 1000, as you might have heard other people use, but it makes no difference. The scale is from one to ten. Step 5. If you have minecraft open already, you must close the application and relaunch it. You should now look like you have a permanent night vision potion on when you're in a cave. Step 6. If you are using optifine, or running optifine with BLC or Lunar client or Labymod, it still might not work. If this happens, while on the main menu screen, click options>video settings>quality...>and make sure Custom Colours is turned to off. It might not change straight away, so try relaunching your game again. Step 7. If this still doesn't work for you, I can't help you.

On your desktop do command+shift+G then search: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft from there follow the rest of the steps Btw, I still find it funny how people don't realize that you don't need the percents on appdata for it to work.
