- How do you "properly" duel wield?
RonCarrProject 14 years ago#1When you equip two weapons, say they both have 10 damage, it gives you 20 (duh math) on the character screen. Is that 20 damage allotted to one sword? Like, if I have two equipped but only swing one sword, is it putting out the 20 damage or 10?Also, how do you "properly" duel wield? Is the duel wield only for the power attack that does 3 hits or is there something else there? Please explain fighting techniques or why duel wield is better than 2H or sword/shield! Thanks!Switch FC: SW-7367-9683-7785Pokemon Home FC: LLBKDUCMVGPE

Tbon110 14 years ago#3Honestly, the only thing dual wielding gives you is a pretty good standing power attack and dual standing strike. You can't alternate strikes with weapons to attack faster and you lose the defense bonus of a shield. All in all, I think either S&S or 2H is a better route than dual wielding, it just feels really clunky to me.
RonCarrProject (Topic Creator)14 years ago#4I do like the power attacks duel wield gives. I always carry a shield with me just in case, but I actually like it but not sure if I was getting the most out of it as I couldSwitch FC: SW-7367-9683-7785Pokemon Home FC: LLBKDUCMVGPE
Tbon110 14 years ago#5Not only does the dual wielding feel clunky, but the bash with shields and 2H weapons is incredible. You can stun lock enemies for breathing room and turn the tides of a battle with it.
Edavy89 14 years ago#6You can swing with both weapons at the same time at an increased speed however.
kineticv3 14 years ago#72 enchanted effects maybe? Or possibly 4 different effects on the target with high enchanting

Iamjacksplasmid 14 years ago#10Proper duel-wielding? Well, here's what I think, and here's what I know:What I seem to remember being true, but can't confirm from work...-duel-wielding speed/damage enhancing perks affect single-handed swings when you have two weapons equipped, not just the dual weapon attacks.-when you get blocked with one weapon, you can swing the other still, allowing you to interrupt attacks and slip past blocks more easily.-rapid single-weapon strikes while an enemy is attacking seems to sometimes result in a parry, where my blade catches theirs and results in staggering them. What I know to be true:-dual weapon attacks are EXTREMELY powerful, and heavy ones have a tendency to drain so much stamina while being blocked that they usually break the guard of an opponent.-combining dual-wielding with high-level enchanting allows you to have a level of combat versatility that is unattainable by any other means, since you can technically have 4 different effects striking all at once (fire, shock, ice, and paralyze with one dual weapon attack), or have effects double-stacking for profound specialization against certain enemy types (two large magicka drains coupled with lightning, or two large stamina drains coupled with frost).-dual-weapon sneak attack backstabs with two daggers and a high sneak skill will kill anything I have encountered thus far in one hit...which makes sense, when consider that the attack could be with two iron daggers and it will still get the dual-wield modifer, crit modifier, and the enormous sneak based dagger backstab crit modifier. and those all stack. So, with that said, here's how I've handled dual-wielding as my primary fighting style:Early on, a dagger with a normal one-handed weapon or two normal one-handed weapons are the best choice, because you are looking to maximize damage and your skills are still too low to have the beneficial perks and equipment that do that. I would suggest getting Oakflesh and casting it before combat, and making sure you are well-stocked on potions. at this point in the game, you are a fragile and delicate flower with no blocking ability, so you need to rely on big hits, good armor, and quick healing. alchemy might come in handy, or just grabbing every health item you can. carry a bow, because some enemies are going to be able to spellkill you before you close enough, and your dual-wielding simply is not a viable option against them. YET.Later on, with high enchanting and one-hand skills, two daggers is the correct choice. your armor should be enchanted at this point with regen effects that mitigate the need for a shield, your alteration should be high enough to heavily armor up with Dragonflesh, and you should effectively be able to wade through most destruction magic through creative use of a few pounds of purpose-driven jewelry. since you now have faster swings, harder hits, and powerful enchanted weapons that refuel themselves due to enchant perks, your weapon's damage is less important than being able to quickly cause multiple enchantment procs on a target. a sword might do more damage in theory, but the dagger is fast enough to cause two enchant procs, so it's almost always the better option. Basically, the dual-wielder is a dervish. You do not block. You do not hesitate. You close the gap, and you kill. With a pound or two of rings/amulets and a fancy assortment of dual-enchanted daggers, you will be carrying whatever you need to quickly remove an opponent's advantage and mete out enormous damage that they simply cannot match.WHEW! TL;DR, right? I hope this helps.GT: iamjacksplasmid
