About how many miles should I be driving in between changes when performing the 3x3 ATF flush? I have a 93 DX coupe, if that matters. I think he's talking about where you drain it fill it, drive so many miles, then do it again so that after the 3rd time all of the old atf is no longer in there. I did this about a year ago and I think I drove between 50-100 miles each time. I put the car on jack stands. After the drain/fill I run the car in every gear for one minute. Then I repeat. After the 3x3 a month later I drain and fill 1x. After that do it once a year and you should be good. The first time I did it...I drained, filled...waited a month...then again, and waited a month, and so forth. So a 3 month cycle. I have a buddy is a Master Tech at honda and he says they do it....put the car on the lift... drop 3, lower car and fill, start car, row the gears 3-4 times. Raise car, drop 3, lower car, row gears 3x...etc. So at honda (or at least his shop) its 0 miles, and a minute or so. Ive done both now personally. 3x3 with a few miles between, and 3x3 with nothing but throwing it in gear a few times. Both times it has work exactly the same. As long as you put it in gear I believe the ATF sloshes a round a bit and your good. As long as your using quality ATF (pref Honda OEM) your good either way. Reply 0 0

Awesome! So it's not going to screw up the process by driving around for a few weeks between changes. And, yea, I'm using genuine Honda ATF... Which is apparently all DW-1 these days. Another thing --just my personal opinion here---you dont have to drop your atf very often unless your in extreme conditions. I am doing 30k now. drop 3 every 30k. dropping it yearly is a waste for me. I dont think I put enough miles on it yearly to warrant a drop. I think honda thinks its good for around 100k... I changed it about 3 months ago, but I used 3 quarts of Valvoline DexIII... before that, yea, it had been at least 100k miles, maybe a little more. Now that Honda is apparently switching everything over to DW-1, I'd feel better having only the DW-1 in there (since I'm not sure how that mixes with DexIII). That's mainly why I'm aiming to flush the tranny. On a side note, I must say that after putting the 3 quarts of DW-1 in there, it already seems to shift smoother. And, yea, that drain plug had a ton of shavings on it when I changed it 3 months ago. Almost nothing when I changed it last week, though. Although i will ad i have seen At start slipping after replacing the atf after 100k hondas especially. Just make sure you use your year specific atf (they usually change gen by gen) Reply 0 0 10psiLsEf2 View Public Profile Send a private message to 10psiLsEf2 Find More Posts by 10psiLsEf2 View iTrader Profile Old Sep 29, 2012 | 12:37 AM Share Share Options #13 fragmare's Avatar fragmare Thread Starter Honda-Tech Member Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 599 Likes: 1 From: NW Indiana Default Re: How long to wait between ATF changes when doing 3x3 flush trick?
