How much does it cost to patch a tire puncture?

How much does it cost to patch a tire puncture?
So, my wife took it to Canadian Tire and it cost us $109 + fees and Taxes. This doesn't seem right. From what I remember it used to only cost $20-30 for a random Asian Garage. Granted that was ~10 years ago. I wouldn't think inflation went up 500% in 10 years. Doing a quick search on reddit/rfd suggests $40-50 seems to be the current rate. Any idea why Canadian Tire would charge us so much? I know big box stores usually charge more but I wouldn't think it's THAT much more? Images

Don't forget that canadian tire will also do am inspection of your vehicle and charge you $100 for that. Scumbags! A friends parents vehicle broke down (starter went) an hour from home on a Saturday and the closest place that would take the vehicle was a canadian tire. They had it towed there and asked for the starter to be replaced. they were charged $100 for an inspection that included brake pad wear, windshield washer fluid level... They argued with the 'service manager' and were told it was standard procedure for any service to do an inspection, no if ands or buts. BUT since they were unhappy they would knock $20 off. +1

Canadian Tire should be your last stop for any repair. $30 should be the max. +3

In Vancouver, last time I had a patch done around a year ago it was around $50 with taxes. If your repair was like $20 they probably just plugged the tire and not a patch. But yea, $109 is excessive for sure. Maybe upload the receipt and see what they have done. Things like this I would think should have standardized pricing at Canadian Tire.

Something wrong here. Without seeing the work order impossible to surmise how it cost that much. But some possibilities: - they deemed the tire to be unrepairable and happened to have a suitable used replacement on hand and fitted that - they broke a tire pressure sensor when dismounting the tire and charged you for a replacement - they balanced all 4 tires as an extra (unapproved) service

Was a "fix-a-flat" type sealer can like tire slime used prior to going to CT ? The stuff makes a huge mess inside the tire that needs to be manually cleaned out = extra cost

That's what I thought too. I mean i'm expecting it to be standardized and overpriced, yes. But 109 seems really expensive As suggested, I did took a look at the work order, it does say: "Tire Repair, Plug, Patch & Balance 0211" for $109 "UNI-SEAL PATCH UNI-SEAL PATCH" for $2.50 "tire balance weight tire balance weight" for 2.99 i'll upload a picture of the workorder to my initial post. I guess if everyone is saying Tire Patch woud cost $20-50, the remaining can be accounted for by Tire balance? does it cost that much to balance the tire? (Also keep in mind we didn't ask for this, but i guess it's a forced package kinda deal?) Is it recommended to Tire Balance after a patch anyway? If it is, i'll feel better lol

I guess if they actually balanced the tire, that would be another $15-$20. $109 is still expensive, but if they actually did the job properly then I guess there isn't much you can do. Just remember to always ask for the cost before getting any work done next time. Also for tire related stuff I find tire shops much better at doing these type of work because they deal with tires everyday.
Another Cdn Tire fail thread. Maybe they saw she is a woman and would not know any better of what a fair charge should be and decided to gouge her big time, given she is driving a luxury Tesla as well.

That is egregious! Like everyone said, $40 absolute MAX, with many places doing it for $20 and under. Scumbags. Depending on the car, you could likely get a brand new tire mounted for close to what you paid.
Not sure what kind of tires you have but a new tire might not be that far off that price. So I think a complaint might definitely be in order. Tell em you're going to call one of the consumer reporters on TV. $1 saved is like $2 earned...remember that!

+1, I’ve been using these kits for years and never had a leak. Quick, easy and cheap. No need to wait around a tire shop for an hour. Most tire shops around here are $15-30 bucks with tire balancing. OP got bent over a barrel and f**ked @ $109. Let it be a lesson to never take you vehicles to crappy tire.
