George Takei is an American actor of Japanese origins who became famous for his role in Star Trek TV series where he portrayed Sulu. Born as Hosato Takei in 1937 in California, he was also named George after the King George of the UK, who came to the throne in the same year. Takei started his professional career in the early 1950s as a voice actor and began receiving small roles in cinema movies in the mid-1960s. Starting from the late 1970s and during the 1980s, Takei was a key member of Star Trek cast, alongside Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner. From the late 1990s through 2000s and 2010s, he continued appearing in some movies as a cameo and giving voice to numerous animated film characters.
