Takei is a member of many prestigious acting groups such as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Actors’ Equity Association, and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

According to Variety, Takei has stated that he and his family were placed in internment camps along with an estimated 120,000 other Japanese Americans during WWII in the United States.

The actor spent much of his childhood at Camp Rohwer, in Arkansas during that time.

At the end of the war, his family returned to their home in Los Angeles.
