Elvis Presley’s death was a tragedy for his friends, family and fans, of which he had thousands. Though he never toured outside of the USA he gained a major following around the world, making his death a heartbreaking moment for many. But if he were alive today, how old would Elvis Presley be?

If Elvis Presley were alive, he would have turned 86-years-old in January 2021.

He celebrated his birthday on January 8, however this year, like many since August 1977, would have seen his family and fans commemorate his legacy.

Elvis died on August 16, 1977 of cardiac arrest in Memphis, Tennessee, after being taken to the hospital from his home at Graceland.

He left behind his daughter, Lisa Marie, who was only nine-years-old when he died, as well as his girlfriend at the time, Ginger Alden.

Before Ginger, he had been in relationships with a number of women, most notably his only wife, Priscilla Presley.

Priscilla and Elvis met in Germany when she was only a teenager, and Elvis was doing his military service.

Soon they embarked on a relationship and after several years of courtship, they married, to have their daughter Lisa Marie exactly nine months after their wedding day.

On his birthday, Priscilla spoke out to pay tribute to her ex-husband, posting to Facebook: “It’s difficult to believe Elvis would be 86 today, January 8th.

“I think back and wonder...if he were here today, how would he celebrate in the year 2021.”

In her post, Priscilla revealed the way in which Elvis celebrated his birthdays, showing how he liked an intimate gathering of friends and family and, of course, music at the centre.

She continued: “It’s not really hard as Elvis was somewhat...a creature of habit. I believe he would be celebrating exactly the same way.

“Having a small amount of his friends, family and his Memphis Mafia all gathered at Graceland.

“I can almost hear his laugh, see him joking around, and know he would be staying up into the early morning hours... ending at the piano singing gospel songs.

“Elvis, lost in the lyrics, as if no one was around. Then as the song comes to an end and with a slight smile, turns to his guest and nods with satisfaction as everyone applauds for more.

“Those are cherished moments embedded in my mind. Elvis was uncomfortable and a bit shy in receiving presents. Your presence was enough.”

Much of Priscilla’s life after The King’s death has been dedicated to his legacy, as she helped to turn his former home into the tourist attraction it is today.

She has also had her own career as an actress and businesswoman since Elvis died.

As for Lisa Marie, she has followed in her father’s footsteps and released some music as an alternative rock/pop singer.

Lisa Marie has released three albums: To Whom it May Concern in 2003; Now What in 2005; and Storm & Grace in 2012.

She has also released duets with her father, using his old performances and singing along to them, with songs such as In the Ghetto and I Love You Because among these songs.

Along with her mother, she too has done a great deal of work to maintain her father’s legacy, and is the sole owner of Graceland, and all the possessions in it.

Lisa Marie sold much of her inheritance, including image rights of her father’s, but kept Graceland and the items in it to be shown to the public.

Now, much of Elvis’ estate is managed by the EPE (Elvis Presley Enterprises.)
