Materials

1. Worsted weight cotton yarn. Lily sugar n cream was used for the sample. 2. 4.5 mm hook 3. Yarn needle for weaving in the ends

Finished Size

8 X 8 inch square

Gauge

15 sc = 4 inches

Stitch Abbreviations

st- stitch sc- single crochet hdc- half double crochet sk- skip ch- chain

Row 1: Ch 30, 1 sc in second ch from hook ( beginning ch-1 counts as a st), 1 sc in next 27 chains, 4 sc in last ch, pivot your work to work along the opposite side of the foundation chain, 1 sc in next 27 loops, 2 sc in last loop. Do not sl st at end of the round.——-62 sc counting the beginning ch-1 as well

Row 2: Directly work, 1 sc and 1 hdc in beginning ch-1 of last round, *( sk next st, 1 sc and 1 hdc in next st), repeat from *, keep going in a spiral till your work is an 8 X 8 inch square.

Once you have a square, work the stitch pattern till you reach the corner of the square, sl st to the corner st, ch 20, turn and work 1 sl st in each ch across, sl st to the same st you started the chain loop in.

Bring free end of the ch loop near your hook and sl st through the end of the ch loop and the next st. Fasten off with a 2 1/2 feet long tail.

Whip stitch the hot pad shut using your tail. Pull any tail left between the two layers and trim.
