To craft Shears in Minecraft, all you need are two iron ingots. Once you have those, simply align them diagonally with one another on the crafting screen as indicated in the image below.

Shears in Minecraft were originally designed to be used to collect wool from a sheep, which can be used to make a bed or banner, but it has more uses than just trimming your flock of sheep.

You can also use shears on a mooshroom, which will yield five mushrooms at the cost of irreversibly turning the mooshroom into a normal cow.

Using shears on a pumpkin will also turn it into a Jack-o-Lantern. Yes, Shears can be used to break some Minecraft blocks. While some blocks can be sheared and changed, or yield drops when the shear is used on them, other blocks will simply drop when shears are used on them. The advantage is that these blocks will drop as if they were harvested by a tool with a Silk Touch enchantment.
