How to use storage locations on your PS5 console

Game and saved data, as well as other data, is stored on the built-in storage of your PS5® console. If you don't have room on your console storage, you can either delete data that's already there or move data to one of the following storage spaces:

Type of data USB extended storage  M.2 SSD storage  Cloud storage*2 USB drive
Game data (PS5 games)✓*1--
Game data (PS4 games)--

*1 To play PS5 games, you need to move game data from your USB extended storage drive back to your PS5 console storage or M.2 SSD storage.

How to check your storage space on PS5 consoles

Your PS5 console monitors how much storage space is used by your games, media content, and saved data. To check how much free storage space you have, go to the home screen and select Settings > Storage.

To free up your storage space, delete existing data, or move data to a different location:

Don't worry, you won't lose access to any deleted games or applications — you can re-download your purchases from your game library whenever you like.

  1. Go to Settings > Storage > Console Storage > Games and Apps.
  2. Choose the data you want to get rid of, and select Delete.
  • When a game has Customize next to its title, you can select and manage portions of the game data. For example, if there are add-ons you don't use or parts of a game that you've already finished, you can delete the data and still play the rest of the game.
  • You can also manage PS5 console storage by linking your PS5 console to PlayStation®App on your iOS or Android device.
