After purchase and home delivery of the Cox TV Starter, the next step to its proper and complete home installment is the programming of the Cox remote to the TV.

Steps to Programming a Cox Remote to a TV

The Cox remote is a wireless electronic device that allows you to operate your Cox TV from a distance. It works just like your typical TV remote controller or clicker.

1. Identify the model of your Cox remote

The first step to programming a Cox remote to a TV after installing the equipment in your home is to identify your Cox remote model. The various Cox remote models include:

  • Mini Box RF3220-R
  • Mini Box URC2220
  • Contour Urc8820
  • Contour M7820
  • Contour XR15
  • Contour XR11

The different Cox remote models have different programming processes. These processes make it very necessary to identify your remote model and accurately program it to the TV.

If you saved the information (the manual) that came with the remote, go through it to find your remote control type and its model number. After successfully identifying your remote’s name and model, the next step is to insert the manufacturer’s remote code.

2. Identify and Insert the manufacturer’s remote code to pair the remote with the TV

The process is called “the device code entry method”. This method would first require you to identify the manufacturer’s code to pair the remote with your TV.

To identify this code, use the code-finder tool online to know what code your TV uses. Also, it is important to always identify your remote type so you could follow its pairing process accurately since the different processes contrast slightly. Below is a list of the different processes involved in pairing up the Cox remote with the TV and the 6 remote types.

How to Manually Program a Cox Remote to a TV

You don’t have to get worried when you no longer have access to the online code-finder of your TV over the internet. There’s still an option to manually look through all the codes from the list of codes in your paperwork and insert them by yourself. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Turn on the TV you want to program
  • Lightly press the TV key.
  • Locate your TV brand in your paperwork (TV manual or user guide)
  • If the brand of your TV isn’t listed, proceed to the information section on the manual.
  • Simultaneously long-press the mute and select buttons until the TV key blinks twice, and release them after the key blinks.
  • Enter the first four-digit code listed for your brand.
  • Press the power key to test TV control.
  • If your TV turns off when you press the power button, your correct code is automatically saved.

As much as this manual method proves to be as effective as the Online Code-finder method, its disadvantage is that it is time-consuming as it requires you to browse through every manufacturer’s code to find the code that matches your TV. Upon match-up, you can then continue with the programming process stated above as it applies to your remote model.

Bottom Line

Programming a Cox remote to a TV can turn out to be an easy task if you follow the right guide. Through it all, always make sure to refer to your manufacturer’s manual as it remains the first and primary comprehensive reference for the proper functioning and programming of every/any equipment.
