Dave_SL60_AMG D hi people im new to all this. I have just purchased a beautiful sl600 1995 r129. i was having a look around the engine today and found what looks like a couple of map sensor rubber elbow joints split and one had come off completely. ive put them back on so all is ok there but i was wondering if it was necessary to reset the ecu so it could re-learn parameters. if so how do i go about doing this? in the past on my lotus esprit it was just a case of disconnecting the battery but i dont want to do any dammage. ive not found a problem with the running of it as such which i found strange. other than the fact that if i floor it when in second the revs dip for a split second then they pick up. the same happens if i rev it when in neutral. any help much appreciated. also the abs and asr lights keep coming on quite intermittantly. they wont go off on there own unless i turn the ignition off. then i could drive for a few miles fine but then they come on again. they come on at no particular time, i.e: not when breaking, just when ever they like. any ideas thanks dave #1 · Mar 26, 2006 hi people im new to all this. Your symptoms could be the beginning of the disintergration process. The more you handle the wiring the worse the condition will get. See previous posts on this subject. I had same problems with my 95 SL600. After replacement, everything went back to normal. #4 · Mar 28, 2006 Hi Dave, I won't profess to know exactly what you're talking about as I thought MAP sensors were fitted to forced induction cars. I know the later SLs had a MAF sensor inline with the air intake and throttle body but these don't have rubber elbows fitted. Ideally you need to get a diagnosis on your car - this will also allow fault codes and the ECU to be reset. It shouldn't take long and if you have a friendly mechanic they could do it for beer money. Alternatively there are a lot of diagnostic tools available cheaply on eBay that may help you. Just driving the car will get the ECU learning new settings - the real problem would have been if it had entered limp home mode. Sorry I can't be of more help. #5 · Mar 28, 2006 thanks for the help. wiring sounds serious and not good, hope its not that. ive had the near side front abs sensor off tonight and that was gunged up to hell and had a load of fillings on. cleaned it all up but hasnt cleared the abs fault. its going for a lubricant service at mercedes tomorrow. im dreading the outcome. the service they have quoted me sounds cheep @ £139+ vat but its the abs and asr lights im worried about. and any other codes stored in the ecu. suppose i will know tomorrow. the rubber elbows i found are at the rear of the engine bay on the right hand side on top of the engine. only know about the whole map word because i had a lotus esprit and that had the same problem but that was turbo'd and obviously this isnt but it looked like that sort of thing. must be the vacum piping or something like that. im guessing anyway. keep your fingers crossed for me. will post a reply tomorrow. probably starting with a :( thanks again dave #6 · Mar 28, 2006 Good Luck[:)] #7 · Mar 28, 2006 whats this ive just seen in a post about reseting codes with a paper clip on models 1995 or older? any ideas how its done? thanks dave #8 · Mar 29, 2006 Resetting codes is done via grounding pins on the diagnostic connecter for 3 seconds. Again you can do this with a simple tool off of eBay. The wiring harness manufacturer was changed before your car was built so I wouldn't worry about that. #9 · Mar 29, 2006 service done and outcome of error codes and work to be done. Thats a big relief about the wiring harness! Just got back from mercedes drayton in the west midlands. oil service all done. very impressed with the service. here are the things they picked up on. -outside bearing support joints worn. -control valve for adaptive damping system leaking -emissions aip pump intermittantly noisy -split air intake hose so out of this lot which amounts to £2230.17 its not that bad. the hose i can fit my self £40 the leaking control valve and support joints i will try and get my local garage to do (the guy there used to work for many german manufactures in germany) the air pump i will leave unless it fails as that is £900 alone to buy. i havent heard a noise and im fussy :) does anyone know were i may locate one of these control valves part number: 32736201 as that is £280 to buy. Maybe second hand or an alternative part? they have also cleared the error codes of the abs fault (027)) s9/1 brake light switch (004) b24/1 wheel accelerator sensor (019) under voltage little bit worried about the under voltage one as the car wont get that much usage anyway so i may need a battery soon do you think? would be interested to see what people make of all this. overall im quite happy with the outcome though thanks dave Insert Quotes Post Reply
