mikeyw M Hi, After cleaning my MAP sensor this afternoon (it was heavily clogged) i did some reading and on other forums people mention resetting the ECU to get the most benefit. Is this necessary ? - if i do it can it have any affect on the new map i have on the car ? Too soon to say it it's helped but will report back. Finallt how the hel do you get the engine cover back on ? - is there a special technique, bu@@ered if I can get it to go back on  tia, Mike. #1 · Jan 12, 2013 Hi, After cleaning my MAP sensor this afternoon (it was heavily clogged) i did some reading and on other forums people mention resetting the ECU to get the most benefit. On my engine cover I take the rubber grommets off the engine and out them into the recesses in the cover and then pop it on. #3 · Jan 14, 2013 Agreed every time I have removed the Engine Cover the rubber grommets have stayed on the engine. Just pull them off, put them on the engine cover and it all clicks together again!!! #4 · Jan 14, 2013 Cheers guys - that where i was going wrong :) As for the ECU reset the rationale was other sensors build up data from the MAP sensor over time, obviously to benefit from the clean MAP sensor then should be reset by ECU reset... #5 · Jan 14, 2013 An ECU reset just clears out the correction data that is added/subtracted over time for non-ideal sensors. This is done constantly and the ECU will compensate for ageing sensors etc. If you replace a sensor then the ECU will quickly self-compensate again. Resetting the ECU will do this a bit quicker but you won't notice and so you don't need to do a reset. This is what people refer to as ECU "learning". #6 · Jan 15, 2013 Cheers Michael :) Insert Quotes Post Reply
