- Open the WhatsApp chat → tap + → Photos → long-press the Live Photos → Select as GIF → send.
- You can also do so from the Photos app, open the Live Photo → tap the Live drop-down menu → select Loop or Bounce → Share → WhatsApp chat → Send.
- Lastly, you can convert the Live Photos to GIFs beforehand and share them on WhatsApp.
Method 1. Send Live Photos as GIFs From WhatsApp
You can convert the Live Photos to GIFs beforehand and then share them on WhatsApp as usual, or you can use the following method to let WhatsApp do all the work.
Step 1: Launch WhatsApp on your iPhone. Open the chat to share Live Photos.
Step 2: Tap the plus (+) button at the bottom left corner. Select Photos from the menu.

Step 3: Find the Live Photo you want to share. Long-press the photos and choose Select as GIF.
Step 4: Trim or edit the GIF as desired. Tap the Send button to send the Live Photo as a GIF.

The recipient will see the Live Photo as a GIF.
While this method is cool, it has one basic limitation – you can only do this for one photo at a time. That means if you want to share a bunch of Live Photos as GIFs, you must select them one by one, convert them to GIFs, and share them on WhatsApp; or you can try the next method.
Tip: Google Pixel offers a similar feature to Live Photos, i.e., Motion Photos. If you want to know how to share Motion Photos from Google Pixel, follow the link.
Method 2. Send Live Photos as GIFs From the Photos App
You can also share Live Photos as GIFs directly from the Photos app. Thankfully, it’s a native feature, and you don’t need to use any extensions for the Photos app or third-party image editors.
Step 1: Launch the Photos app on your iPhone. Select the Live Photo you want to share.
Step 2: Tap the drop-down menu from the top-left corner. Select the Loop or the Bounce option.
- Loop creates a regular GIF.
- Bounce creates an Instagram Boomerang-like looping GIF.

Step 3: Once done, tap the Share button at the bottom left.
Step 4: In the Share Sheet, tap WhatsApp → select the chat. Tap Send to share the GIF.

Although you can’t batch convert Live Photos to Loop or Bounce, you can at least attach and WhatsApp them together once all are converted to GIFs.
