How to Transfer Pokemon Between HOME and Nintendo Switch Games

To transfer a Pokemon between HOME and Nintendo Switch games, you need to use the Nintendo Switch version of the app and have that game card inserted into the Switch if it's a physical copy.

You will only be able to access a game's Pokemon boxes from Pokemon HOME if the save data is connected to the same Nintendo account as your Pokemon HOME account.

Basically,

  • Have the copy of the target Pokemon game, and its save data, present on the Nintendo Switch.
  • Have Pokemon HOME on the Nintendo Switch
  • Have both Pokemon HOME and the saved data for the Pokemon game you want to transfer to or from attached to the same Nintendo account.

The next steps are fairly straightforward and the same for each game. 1. Open the Pokemon HOME app on your Nintendo Switch.

2. Select “Pokemon."

3. Select the game you want to connect to. In this case, Sword or Shield. (Note: selecting HOME just lets you organize your HOME boxes).

4. Select the Pokemon you want to move to (or from) Pokemon HOME. The Pokemon you can select will depend on the game you're transferring to. Check a Pokemon's summary to see which games it's compatible with. Generally, a Pokemon can only be transferred to a game if it is already naturally obtainable in that game.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl - Pokemon HOME

Pokemon HOME became compatible with Pokemon BDSP after the Pokemon HOME 2.0 Update. Pokemon from BDSP can be transferred freely between HOME, Legends: Arceus, and Sword and Shield, with some caveats and limitations.

  • Only Pokemon available natively in BDSP can be transferred to them.
  • Pokemon transferred into BDSP from other games will have its moves replaced by that species' level-equivalent moveset in BDSP. This reverts if the Pokemon is returned to its original game.
  • Pokemon from Legends: Arceus will appear as inside Strange Balls. The balls revert to Poke Balls if returned to Pokemon HOME, and to the original ball if returned to Legends: Arceus.
