1. Place the Blast Furnace
To use a blast furnace, first, select the blast furnace in your hotbar. If you don't have a blast furnace in your inventory, you can quickly make one with a crafting recipe for a blast furnace.
Next, position your pointer (the plus sign) on the block where you want to place the blast furnace. You should see the block become highlighted in your game window.

The game control to place the blast furnace depends on the version of Minecraft:
- For Java Edition (PC/Mac), right click on the block.
- For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap on the block.
- For Xbox One, press the LT button on the Xbox controller.
- For PS4, press the L2 button on the PS controller.
- For Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button on the controller.
- For Windows 10 Edition, right click on the block.
- For Education Edition, right click on the block.

2. Add Fuel to the Blast Furnace
Next, add fuel to the bottom box of the blast furnace.

In this tutorial, we are going to use coal as our fuel.
TIP: Some fuels burn longer than others and therefore can smelt more items. Learn about the different fuels in Minecraft.3. Add Item to Blast Furnace
Next, place an item that you want to smelt in the top box of the blast furnace such as diamond ore. You should see the flames smelting the item.

Once the diamond ore is smelted in the blast furnace, the diamond will appear in the box to the right.

4. Move the Item to Inventory
Now that you have made a diamond in your blast furnace, you need to move the new item to your inventory.
