Jasmine rice in the Instant Pot is the perfect recipe for anyone new to pressure cooking. You’ll get perfect results every time and you’ll love that you don’t need to babysit a pot on the stove.

Jasmine rice has a slightly sweet taste and is a bit sticky no matter how you cook it. It’s perfect with dishes like Peanut Butter Chicken, Air Fryer Orange Chicken, Instant Pot Teriyaki Beef, Air Fryer Tofu, Instant Pot Beef Tips and Gravy, or Instant Pot Orange Chicken.

What is Jasmine Rice

Jasmine rice is a long-grain rice that is primarily grown in Thailand. Jasmine is considered a fragrant variety and has a nutty, popcorn-like smell when it has cooked.

It can come in many colors, and you can find both the white (polished) version as well as brown rice. It’s an amazing base for dishes around the world.

Ingredients

For this recipe, we use only a few ingredients:

  • White Jasmine rice
  • Stock/broth, or water
  • Olive oil (optional)
  • Salt

How to make Jasmine Rice in Instant Pot:

I’ll walk you through it with some tips and tricks and photos, and you’ll find a printable recipe card at the bottom of the post with exact measurements and cooking times.

Rinse the uncooked rice in a fine-mesh strainer under cool water until the water runs clear.

Combine it with the stock/broth or water, olive oil, and salt in the Instant Pot. Give it a good stir and then put the lid on.

Set the Instant Pot to manual high pressure and cook for 4-6 minutes depending on your preferred texture for rice.

When the rice has finished cooking, allow the Instant Pot to sit for 10 minutes before releasing any additional pressure using the vent on the lid. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve.

How Long Do You Cook Jasmine Rice in the Instant Pot?

Depending on how you like your rice, 4-6 minutes works best. If you like firmer rice, 4 minutes is perfect. Want something a little softer, then 6 minutes is your best bet. I find 5 minutes makes the perfect texture every single time.

What is the Ratio of Water to Rice For Jasmine Rice?

Keep a 1:1 ratio of rice to liquid. For every 1 cup of rice you use, you’ll need 1 cup of broth or water. No matter how long you cook it, and how much rice you make, the ratio stays the same.

Can You Double This Recipe?

Yes! You can easily double your batch of jasmine rice in the Instant Pot. The cooking time will remain the same no matter how much rice you make.

Doubling rice in the Instant Pot is easier in the 6 or 8-quart Instant Pot. When you double the recipe, it will take the Instant Pot a bit longer to come up to pressure.

Pot-in-Pot Rice Method

The pot-in-pot cooking method produces the same texture as cooking the rice directly in the Instant Pot. But a side benefit is that it’s cooked in a serving dish that you can put directly on the table (along with a hot pad/trivet).

You’ll need: a glass bowl (like this Pyrex) or a stainless steel insert, and a wire trivet (hint: most pressure cookers come with them).

Place 3 cups of water in the insert of your Instant Pot and add the trivet. Mix your rice, water/broth, and salt in a glass bowl.

Pro Tips/Recipe Notes

  • Each cup of uncooked rice will yield three cups of cooked rice.
  • I never use the rice button on my Instant Pot. I much prefer the option of using manual high pressure with a specific cooking time.
  • With a stainless steel Instant Pot insert, some rice will stick to the bottom and sides after cooking. Simply soak the insert in warm water for a bit and then clean it as usual.
  • Make sure to turn the Instant Pot off once it has finished cooking. This will prevent the rice in the pot from scorching while you wait for the pot to depressurize.
